Hi from Sierra Leone,

Im new to the fishing scene but im hooked completely. It started out with a colleague and myself pondering what to do on our one sunday off every 13 days. Fortunatley we are marine contractors so we have access to a decent 22ft alumax boat with 2 x 70HP engines. After deciding we needed to get rigged up we both went home on  R&R and proceded to gear up, buying enough off shore tackle that the missus riases more than an eyebrow <: !

On returning we promptly spent our days before the sunday off spooling reels and preparing lures. Both of us were relatively green to this except my colleague had done some lake fishing in europe so he had a few ideas on trolling dynamics.

Needless to say we hit the water early sunday morning and the sea is flat as a pancake, the sun was out, sheesh one could not ask for more after being trapped in a camp like gauntanamo bay for 3 months!

From that first sunday back in november and every sunday thereafter we have hit the ocean and never regreted one second of it.

The catches have only gotten better as we perfect the art of trolling, good days have seen meneer barracudas of 1,4m and well sized GT that put up a great fight. On occassion we have hooked two smaller dorado as well as a few mackerel. We tend not to release any fish beacause the filipino crew that work with us as well as the locals appreciate the catch far more than the chinese trawlers plundring the seas around us.

Unfortunatley the water depth up to 25nm from the coast is still 20-30m so i have my doubts of finding any tuna. On coming back to Capetown for my dec R&R i was fortunate enough to go out from hout bay YFT fishing, it was the best day of the year but the bites were minimal, i got hooked up to a beast of a YFT that tore the hook out just short of gaffing distance this was after 1h5m, the fish broke me but it was a great fight and i take my hat off to it for getting away! I will be back for more when i get to CT.

But for now i run a sunday trip from the camp taking , colleagues, the filipinos and whoever else manages to ask me in time!
Every trip has a new buzz with excitement to see what comes up next!

Below are some photo's of the catches and the happy first timers who caught them! Till i get that YFT , stywe lyne peeps :fshn: ! And thanks for the very informative forum you host! Tim
