Mostly I fish with Rapala and Halco as these are the lures I find that can track well without popping at higher speeds.
It is very difficult to say exactly which way I rig them as it will depend on what I am targeting and the size of the lure will also make a difference and trolling speed.
Lets say theses lures come in 2 size classes - Small (10cm and less) and Large
The normal way that I rig them would be with 300-500mm of wire (No.5 for small lures and No 7or8 for large lures) with a small centro size 8 (80lb) swivel. Leader line for small lures max 0.50mm and Large lures 0.70mm. I prefer Flouro here.
This is best for high speed trolling. You can join the leader to the steel with an albright knot, but I prefer the small swivel.
I often do not use wire and use a 6m flouro leader tied to my main line (30lb for small lures, 50lb for large lures), at the end of the leader I tie a swivel (Size 6-8 for small lures, size 4 for large lures) which then goes onto the split ring.
This is typical for targeting YFT and Dorado and usually is even safe for Wahoo. and works when trolling slower, for Snoek my leader is 20lb flouro.
Deep Trolling will require different methods to get the lure down deep.
1. For Higher speeds - In line trolling sinker from 2-24oz you can use the steel or just the flouro but the weight must be min 4m from the lure.
2. For slower speeds - 3 way rigging, here you will tie a 3 way swivel on to your line, on 1 end your lure and on the other your sinker. The lure line must always be double the length of the weight line. usually 2m on the lure and 1m on the weight. Weights can be 1 - 9oz
3. For Higher speed - Braid - here you have your 500mm steel with swivel and then you tie 30m of 50-80lb braid as your leader.
