Very sad but mirrors our experience. We are not by any means world class, but over easter this year, we did the Dbn ski boat competition without a bite, followed immediately by a week in Sodwana with the same experience. Even jumping into the water over the reefs with a speargun showed little signs of life.
IN august last year, we were confronted with trails of POO from Toti but probably the worst was over the barge in Umhlanga. You could literally see and smell the brown filth on the water. No thoughts of jumping into that water as I am sure you would get sick. Over that same time, every time our reels went, we would find a plastic bag on the end of it.
My wife was talking to one of the local ORI people and they said the reason we don't see dolphins any more was that they are all getting nailed by the pollution and plastic. Very very sad.
Sadly very little will from our government to do anything about litter, fishing trawlers etc. When I go down in December we are going to take black bags on board and get as much rubbish out as we can.
