ROD REBUILD FOR GRINDER

I’m rebuilding my Poseidon P5 for a grinder. I will be fishing 30/50lb braid mostly on it but hope to do bit of sliding with 0.50mm mono on the grinder so I need to use guides which will handle both. I have tried it with low riders and it is fine with braid but doesn’t like the heavy mono much. Has anyone any suggestions as to suitable guides that would help with this?

.50mm mono on a fixed spool is not a lot of fun.I would suggest KW's:40H 30H 25 20 16 as a reduction train

Any reason you don't want to use an overhead for this application?If memory serves you are pretty good with a multiplier reel?

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give it a go although I'm not a huge fan of the KW40 due to its size! I've done some research since I posted and came up with MN 40,25,16 (choker) then NOG 12's (they are on the rod so it's a shame to waste them) so I'll try that too.

You are right about the multipliers but I have slight arthritis in my thumbs so my SLOSH 50 is a problem due to its height.

ahhh.
Try these:

KW40L to KW25 to KW20.
or
KW40L to KW30L to KW20

Tangles less than the MN set up you mentioned.

You will just need to play around with spacing

Image shows L to R KW40H KW40L MN40.

If you opt for MN40 - remember to put it on backwards

You might consider skipping the KW16 and going straight from the #20 to a #12

I'll try the MN's first as I don't have a KW40L to hand. If it tangles the K will be the way to go.

I used the angle of the reel to place the chocker (2250mm from the reel). Is that how you place yours? Using the centres of the guides to line them up the stripper ends up at 1300  mm from the reel which doesn't look to bad.
