Marracuene bridge
« on: September 20, 2016, 05:29:46 PM »
The bridge across the Incomati river, in the small town of Marracuene is almost completed. The road on the peninsula side is also being upgraded.

These will connect the EN1 to Macaneta beach and several lodges along the peninsula.

Very nice, but sadly the end of an interesting era.
I have once experienced a ferry breakdown on the outgoing tide. We were swept.downriver and came to rest against a sandbank about 800m from the ramp.
We spend half the night on the ferry whilst it was repaierd by a South African guy fetched by boat from Macaneta. Reached Jays lodge at 03:00 in the morning.

You must of got eaten alive by mozzies that night.

We crossed that ferry late one night in the early nineties and the mosquitos were unbearable, even retreating back into the car did not help cause by the time you open and close the door, the car was infested. Not that our car had windows that trip  :hyst: :rotfl  we were travelling in my dads Jeep Willy's  CJ2 ..................good times
