Blob knot - how silly is this?
« on: November 27, 2010, 08:52:54 PM »
  Would you trust this knot?

1. Take your thicker leader line and a lighter and  gently warm the end so it melts into a blob. Do not overheat (allow to  boil) as this will weaken the blob and cause the knot to fail.

2. You should end up with a firm and nicely rounded blob on the end of your line.

3. Now take the mainline and pass it over the leader. You will need between six and eight inches to complete the knot.

4. Make 5 turns around the shockleader.

5. Gently draw down the tag end and mainline to form the knot and moisten as you do so.
 6. Ensure the knot is firmly drawn down tight and  then trim off the tag end to leave a couple of mm in case of any  slippage in bedding down. A dot of superglue may be added if required  for extra security.

Interesting, let's test it by comparing it to other knots. Although I just don't know if I'd trust it??

A normal 5 turn UNI knot against a burnt piece of nylon???
Can think of a lot better ways to secure my leader.

you gonna feel like a blob when you hook into a big fish. There are a host of better knots, that even easier to tie.

Nah.... that aint gonna work , has to be one serious sized blob to stop everything else from unraveling and coming apart .... i'll stick to the knots that work for me , 'Blob' knot , knot for me.

I have had knots failed on me so will only be using tried and tested knots.
But then again the Neanderthals did say that the humans with their fancy untested bow and arrow is a passing fad.
