Good day Willie.

Rietvlei over the last few years have become more of a specimen angling dam. But they have also introduced some new small fish to the water so that might change in the up and coming summer.

one thing with rietvlei is time, and bu that I am talking about time spent next to the water. there is allot of nice big fish ibn the water, but it takes some time for them to find your bait, and you also need to have the correct feature to fish or you will be fishing in no fish village.

that is why the specimen anglers like the dam, they can spend a few nights there and also know what to look for with a "plumbing set" to do feature finding and then place there baits at the correct spot with the use of either precision casting or just a normal bait boat.

I myself have been there well over 20 times and only ever caught one 5.5kg carp.

hard dam to fish, not for someone looking to get into carp angling as this will break your spirit. rather try a dam with a better reputation.

what WalkersKiller said is very true, the weather has a big role to play in carp angling, when a cold front approaches or its just season change, the carp do tend to get less active, so any change on the barometric gauge will have them go still for a while, and it gets hard to get one on the other end of the line.
