Following up on this thread about tag lines (
http://www.ultimateangling.co.za/index.php/topic,785.msg4172.html#msg4172), I got some tag lines for my outriggers...
I had only one problem... I wasn't happy with the release mechanism... the classic idea behind a tag line release is that the elastic band will break...
Well not all elastic bands are made equal... some need way more pull that others to break... this is a problem, especially when pulling larger lures, in rough seas or going a bit faster...
I browsed the net for a tag line release clip... well all I found was 100's different outrigger, downrigger, kite clips... but no tag line clip...
This prompted me to "invent one"...
Here's what I did...
1. Got a regular plastic hanging pegs (I suppose wood would also work); one for each tag line...
2. Took away the spring, shortened the rear end (about 2 cm) and drilled 3 holes. Used 3 SS bolts to hold the two halves together...
3. The 2 rear bolts are secured by regular SS nuts, while the front one has a wing nut so I can regulate the aperture...
4. The elastic band goes into the front end of the clip and when tighten it will either break or get consistently released at about 5-7 Lb which serves me perfectly, as my strike drag is set at 8-10 Lb...
5. The tag line goes in the hole previously occupied by the spring... please see the diagram below...
