At last years Birthday bash, i was fortunate enough to win a weekend away at the Carribean Estates, sponsored by Aquafan
Due to a number of issues on my side, this was the soonest I could actually get away ! This was to be a Family trip, with some fishing so I didnt take a lot of gear down. Aquafan (Ashaan) kindly put up with my 10 000 questions, and offered some great advice on where and what to target !
I left Jhb on Thursday night and checked in at Carribeam Estates on Friday.... Man was i in for a shock !!!! The place is SPECTACULAR !!!
The unit is unbelievably huge, with 4 bedrooms, 3 with Queen sized beds and the last with 2 Singles and the main en-suite is bigger than my bedroom back home !!!
The Lounge opens to a large patio along a HUGE pond and is awesome to relax !!! It has a double garage, and Ashaan, has a deepfreezer in here for bait ! Perfect !
We unpacked, and while waiting for the rest of the family to arrive, we set about sorting out some tackle... after everyone arrived we took a walk down to the river. We found Bigjonni ( new to UA) on the jetty with his missus and there were tons of small fish around...
Bigjonni had, earlier in the week, caught a 13kg Yellowtail at margate Pier !!!
The next morning saw us up and on the beach at 1st light... I was dying to try out my new Sustain... and man I love this reel !!!!! I hooked a decent shad on spoon, but had it come off just as i reached to pick it up.....
. no other fish came out, even though the water and conditions were amazing !!! Guess we were all just K@K fishermen.....
That afternoon saw us back on the jetty with the small dropshot rods.... I threw every small lure and soft plastic i had... nothing... switched over to bait and landed about a million small stumpies, pinkies grunter etc.... there really are a lot of juveniles in there, so the big boys just didnt want to bite....
I had an idiot on a bot spool all my fireline off though
Whilst we didnt catch anything noteworthy, though to be honest, we really didnt try, This spot is spectacular ! being on a private estate, there are no day visitors, and as such, the beach is not crowded at all. The jetty area and walks are spectacular... and the wildlife is amazing ! This is THE ferfect spot for a holiday away with the family... the estate is unbelievably secure, and hastons for kids and adults to do, and on the opposite bank you have the Wild Coast sun..
