It doesn't bother me Rods. The leader is going to be MAx 0.5mm or something like that, so the knot will be negligible.

I also found that the knot size isn't really a problem but it does sound awkard when you cast like this. It sounds like you're literally ripping the rings out of the guides ...
I prefer to make the leader short enough so that the knot isn't in any of the guides when I cast. The problem with this though is that you index finger does start to take a bit of strain after continous casting for a while.
