If you built you own gaff (like I do) or you just got one from the tackle shop without a protector, here's a small tip that may help keep things a bit safer on board.
A small piece (8 cm) of old fuel hose does the trick.
For me it is fundamental, as I use it on my rubberduck. In addition to that it keeps the gaff really sharp (the point doesn't bump or gets stuck every time) and off course, people's ankles on board are safe in those choppy, bumpy seas we get.
