Unplanned fishing trip at St. Lucia
« on: December 19, 2012, 08:38:28 AM »
Tuesday 11 Dec my wife phones and she told me that she put in leave and will start to work on 18 Dec.
I booked a place for us at St lucia.
12 Dec (Wednesday) we arrive at St Lucia - water colour was brown and I know it will be a waist of time to wet a line. Thursday morning  I renew my Rhino card and was on my way to cape vidal. Caught a few pompanos.
Friday and the water look prosing at St. Lucia - Caught more pompanos and a few shads and a shand shark.
Best catch for the day was a 4kg Shad - using a 1'0 hook with sardine as bait, Rod was the 12 ft kurper rod with a outcast steeler reel. Saturday back to cape vidal this time i took the Surf light 12 ft rod with a Penn 310 Gti reel. Reel give me some problems (antireverse did not work) = spool keep on slipping. I decided to do the rest of the day some snokeling, wifes rod was there to use but decided not to fish for the day
I manage to fix the reel using a spring that was inside a pen that i used to write log with.

These are the best types of break-aways. The unplanned ones. And you managed to catch some fish as well. Congrats on the 4kg :shd: .

Using sardine as bait with a 1'0 hook, playing with the pompanos when the Shad took the bait
