Good day with Dodger and Salty
« on: November 15, 2012, 08:34:24 AM »
Yesterday I had Dodger, Salty and John a guest  of Dodgers on board. We arrived at the boat for 4:30 to find it raining but  this was not going to detour us from heading out to the deep! So we loaded the  boat and where on our way by 5:00…… as we headed out the harbour to find the Wind  was not bad at about 4knots and swell was 1.1 – 1.3 m and inshore water temp  was 22.9 with a light rain still but it looked clear out in the deep so we  decided make for the Deep water!
As we got out to the deep the rain stopped and it became  a very pleasant trip! I managed to find a nice patch of water that was 24.5 deg  and clean so we working this for a little while, when Salty was rewarded  with a nice Oceanic Bonito! After working the area a bit we had the first of 4 :billf: Strikes for the day! However to day was not going to be the day for a  hook up as he was not keen to have his picture taken! :craz: After covering a large  area we headed to do a spot of Bottom :fshn: ……
It was not long before we had our first couple of taker!  Dodger was first into the action with a very small half moon rockcod followed  by a nice False Englishmen of about 1.5 kg. Salty then joined the party with a  false Englishman about the same size, while John was having some fun catching  some snapper! After a little while we moved on to a different reef and I decided  to join the party and wet a line! On first Down Salty ended up with a double up  I nice snapper and a 2-2.5kg false English man!
On my first down I got smashed by something BIG that I could  not stop and got rapped on the knuckles by my KP swr !! What ever it what hit me  just as I hit the bottom and ended up straightening and snapping a 3/0  stainless steel hook :dunno: Shortly after that John hooked into something big which  he could not hold I I jumped in to assist on to fight the fish half way to be  taken by the :shrk: ! We headed back to the harbour only to be met with some  rain :rain: !  But all in all not a bad day out! Total  of 25 fish caught for the day and 6 dropped!

they where  :billf: strikes saw the first one! and then it followed us for a while and hit every couple of KM also the marks on the lure and wear on the line for a 1m above the lure was good indication! also kept only hitting the one lure!

I would not even try to guess? but they where big! and they didn't mess around they where very aggressive when they attacked the bait! there was no tap tap tap bang, there was just a Bang as we hit the bottom!
