Fly-Tying evening Report
« on: February 13, 2012, 12:26:21 PM »
Well, as planned, Saturday afternoon saw us meet at Gallagher Estate Lotus Room for the 1st ever  :ult: Fly-Tying Session.

Adolf kindly secured us the venue... and MAN WERE WE SPOILT !!!

The room was set up with a grand table and comfy couches with a HUGE screen so that we could watch the Soccer. Just outside, was a tranquill pond with some nice koi in it, and Adolf was quick to point out that there would be NO practical lessons with the flies... :hehe:

There where also 2 beautifull Swans, one of which seemed to be very interested in Kallie's lower anatomy.... think it felt for a little pre drinks snacks ! :hyst:

At this stage it was Adolf, Nico my mate Jeremy and I.
Kallie, Rory, Paulie, Luke, Russel, and Kumz Joined within a few minutes.

With drinks in our hands, and the match about to start we went in and started setting up.

Now as a predominantly R&S Angler, I thought I had a lot of kit......
Nico, Rory, and Kallie then opened up boxes upon boxes of fly-tying equipment ! These guys could easily set up shop, and have enough stock for a year ! :shk

Well, the guys set up shop, and the tying began in earnest.

A HUGE  :tkx: To Mrs Kallie.
She together with Country Life put together a goody bag for all that attended.

We had Rory and Nico there, and we needed look no further for expert advise.
Kallie and Paulie together with Luke also set up and for beginners, they all produced some beautiful flies. Guess with Luke, it all runs in the family and he will soon be a master fy-Tyer !
 (clap)

Jeremy enjoying the game

Rory assisting Kallie

Paulie getting in on the action

This pic doesnt do this fly justice...
A SUPERB Dry fly tied by the Master ! Rory !

The Boys all busy

It was Thirsty Work !

Rory and Kallie taking a Drinks Break

And then...
As I mentioned, we were all THOROUGHLY SPOILT !!!
Adolf then produced a feast fit for a King !!!

THE  :ult: Team

Thanks to all that attended and made this an absolute joll !
To our Fly-Tyers, Thank you for all your help and patience, you guys Rock
 (clap)

To Mrs Kallie and Country Life, the goody bags were AWESOME !
and Thanks to Kallie for organizing and carrying them  :hehe:

We would all like to express our HUGE  :tkx: To Adolf (Viskop)
Your generosity in supplying the venue, food and drinks truly was amazing !!
Thank you just does not seem enough !!!

I am so sorry that I have missed this one, next one we have to do somewhere on the vaal, before testing them the next day!

I always thought ff was just for a bunch of snobs - but it is one of the most fun ways to fish. Especially if you fish with excellent company!

Thanks for a great day everyone! I wish we had a camera running when the swan attacked Lichia, that was hilarious.

You guys have some serious equipment and goodies for tying flies, I definitely want to try my hand at this but it will take ages to build up a collection like you guys have. Think I will start off by buying a few flies and then take it from there.

Viskop , can you please read this out to the Swan and show him the picture

Pluck the swans, and roast them. I fillet the meat off the breast bone so that when done I have the breast, wing, leg on each half complete with skin.

Season the meat side and skin side with your favourite seasonings. I use a little Cajun seasoning. I put the halves on a rack in a roasting pan and cook for about an hour at 200 degrees until a meat thermometer registers 130 degrees. I then turn up the heat to 450 and give the bird another five minutes or until the skin is crisp. Remove from the oven, cover with foil and let it rest until the thermometer registers 140-145. Slice across the grain and serve with wild rice and your favourite vegetable
