Hey Durran..
I would advise the JHB - Ermelo _ Piet Retief - Pongola....

There are * stop and goes, and the longest we waited was i think 15 mins...

On the way back we did Empangeni, Vryheid Standerton... DONT DO THIS !

Durran, the roads are still in poor condition, but like Homie says, the Piet Retief Ermelo route is much shorter than all the rest. Advice is to take this route, but don't travel at night. From Pongola, travel down to Hluhluwe on the N2, then take the offramp there, go through Hluhluwe and follow the signs past Sodwana, it's a magnificent road all the way up. It comes out about 22kms short of Manguzi. Then from there a few kms through to Kosi.

LA, make that a whole Ham of Spam!

Hey, wasnt me, merely suggested that I wouldnt like to see the Pongola-Ermelo road during mid day peak hour with end to end trucks on it. It was more or less by concensus that EVERYBODY agreed to travel back via Empangeni-Vryheid.

At the rate that either/both the two routes are deteriorating we will soon be travelling via Durban.

While I agree that the Ermelo-Piet Retief-Pongola route might be the quicker of the two, it is certainly also not good or even acceptable. For a road that they have now been working on for almost 10 years its condition is a crying shame!

So, Cry my beloved country! - Fix the railways and get the damn heavy trucks off our roads, but the Bunny Huggers propogate for higher taxes against 4x4's?
