My 2 inch Sandworm technique...
« on: July 12, 2011, 03:41:23 PM »
Hi guys have not persevered with the dropshot for a while now because of all the blanks I have picked up but I have found a lekker technique which I can thanks my freshwater fishing for.

So this weekend I threw a few sand prawn off the rocks and picked up 2 fish before dead low when it went quiet... Then I thought I would try my wacky rig technique... The success rate was not good but lots of fun and the fish just started going crazy lost a few big Blacktail and managed to land a nice Blacktail a smaller one and a Strepie which was hooked badly and probably did not survive after I revived him...

The images below are from my wacky rig tutorial, which is what this method is called when targeting bass. For saltwater I did exactly the same as seen below except I used a 2 inch Sand Worm and a size 4 hook with a split shot placed roughly 10 cms above the eye of the hook, like I said the fish nailed it and 3 sandworms got completely chowed before I could even jig the worm a bit and slowly retrieve it on the bottom...

Basically what this technique entails is that you cast out wait for the sand worm (Or any other plastic worm) to hit the bottom and let it drift in the current a bit then start your slow retrieve but lifting your rod up 2-3 times, basically like a quick twitch and then bring the rod down and reel in the slack... I didnt know if it would work but it did unfortunately the large swell chased me off the rocks at just about the time where the larger fish normally move into the gully, but I will give it a go next time!
