Well its that time of the year again where we are all thinking along the same lines, SARDINES!!...those little silver bastards that get us all pumped up and running wild searching, casting, jigging, spoooning, sliding its just crazy manic but for us ultimate anglers, thats kinda the essentials that make us buzz.....
Angling for me is 50% project planning, 40% adventure, and only sometimes 10% actually catching fish, so the thought of an entire silly season of "öut thinking" the winter fish gets me ampted and proper excited for some serious rock and surf angling.........
My first project is Mazeppa Bay, although we are rather early for the little silver sods its about time that those big sharks hit the points with the cooler water, so tomorrow morning at 5.30 I am off to do some filming and hopefully catch a giant....
Unfortunately the water is still rather warm sitting around 23 degree and it is not the best temp for big fish but there will always be a bite at Mazeppa....As we all know this 23 degree water is definately not cold enough for the sards, so that will have to change quickly before we start seeing large shoals coming through......
BUT these unpredictible fish can make fools out of the most accomplished research fundi's
, so we can only just hold thumbs.......
So Im off to go look for a big fish in the kei, a place very close to my heart as I grew up fishing with some of south africas best jumping all over those rocks, catching kobs, sharks and walking for miles and miles with as a junior everyones tackle, gaff, rods, tackle box, biat box the works.....but the lessons were well worth it, education that one cannot pay for......at any cost....
Hope everyone enjoyed my articles in th last two editions of the Rock, Surf and Deep magazine in regards to Mafia Island, let me know your thoughts and ill keep you updated as per our Mazeppa project...
Tight Lines everyone.......have fun, im off to catch me a
