Light Tackle Reef Fishing of Durban
« on: August 07, 2010, 06:59:14 PM »
We left Wilson’s Wharf at around 09h30 and proceeded out the harbour mouth, this morning there was a light NE wind and the sea was relatively flat. Later on the NE picked up and the sea was choppy, it was a lovely day. Water temp was around 20 deg.C

It was exciting with the new boat which gives such a smooth ride and we made way at a good speed and were out on the reefs in no time, it amazing how different things can be from one boat to another and this afternoon was comfortable, yet with the old boat we would have got wet and had to take a low bumpy ride home, and no it is so easy.

We were fishing on the reefs with Light Bass Tackle and it was great fun and we caught a lot of reef fish including a really nice size Cave Bass and Sea Barbel which put up a good account for themselves on the light tackle, we also got Snapper, Slinger and some decent size Englishman and Soldier Bream in total well over 30 fish landed.

I was fishing with an Ultra Light Set up with 6lb line; the highlight of the day was a really decent Soldier Bream on the Ultra Light Tackle which gave and awesome fight.
We also had two very big hook ups but sadly we got reefed both times.

Here are the other 2 pics I took one of the Cave Bass and one of The Sea Barbel.
These fish are not big but great fun on light tackle, there is such a huge variety of fish out there.
