Qora river mouth / Kob Inn
« on: March 20, 2026, 05:33:44 PM »
Good day all,
I have a quick question about fishing the Eastern Cape in July.

]I will be heading down to the Qora river mouth in July this year. It is my first time visiting the Eastern Cape in winter, and I have no idea what to expect. I have spent a lot of time in December / January fishing the Nquabara river mouth and have always had great success. Is there anyone out there who has some experience in this region at this time of year?

]My plan is to spend some time fishing the rocks along the coast, but I also want to fish the river. I am not sure how the grunter will be biting at this time of year? I intend to pump mud prawn as I have always done in the past and net some fresh mullet. I don't know if there is a store close by that sells chokka, but it would be great to take some as well.

Any tips, ideas or experiences that you can impart would be super.

Many thanks in advance

Do what you normally do.  River msy be a bit quiet.
Fish the rocks for shad, good time for them. Kobbies should  be around on paddle tail.
Thrash a plug for garrick and scratch around for bronze brean.. Delicious. Use sand prawns and crayfish for bait.

Hey Pete,

How did your fishing turn out? We were there in July as well and it was not too bad but did hope for much better. Caught only 2 Kob. 1 barely limit and 1 undersize. We returned both to the waters. Also caught 1 Shad, 1 x Stumpnose, 2 x guitar fish, sea barbel and lots of bronze bream on the last day. In general I was hoping for more fish. We were 9 men, 6 days and the weather was perfect. Ocean slightly cold that could have contributed to catching less than expected. We bagged 30 fish between all of us and we spent a lot of time working the water. Nothing "Big" was caught unfortunately.

My shad came from a pink paddle tail. Nothing else came out on lure.

Most of our fishing was done on the prawn the locals sell. We did take our own chokka but only one of the Kob were caught on the chokka. Kob Inn sell bait like Sardine and chokka.
