Drag not locking on saltiga 50
« on: May 03, 2020, 11:28:02 AM »
Hi all, I recently took my saltiga 50 to a well know tackle shop for in JHB to service my reel, use them all the time. I had issues with my drag where the center spindle eventually stripped after 15 years, losing a big Raggie in the process. That has now been replaced and the star now goes up and down. However just tested it now and drag doesn’t lock. Stripped the reel. Carbonex Washers are not at all over greased and everything looks in order, what can I check and do to get the drag to lock?

Make sure that you have all the washers in place at the star drag end and also check that the anti reverse ratchet plate and dog pawl are correctly installed. Best thing is wait for Reefs to reply.

Make sure all the parts are in place....

specifically check if there is a washer inside the Click Spring, and then another washer above the bearing.
If these are there, check if all the other parts are in place in and around the Drive gear

Thanks guys, will strip it tonight and check, will post results later. Hopeful this is the "simple" fix and something is missing otherwise there are bigger issues

Thanks Reefs,

So it seems the only thing missing is the spring washer inside the leaf click spring. Also the D washers don't form a D- they nearly flat against each other, should I bend them back to form a D shape?

Do you think these two would cause the drag not to lock?

Star drag? Otherwise ignore as i dont know leverdrags, but DO NOT bend the washers just take them out and put back so they face each other ()?

Definitely they will cause the Drag to fail. Those tiny washers are crucial! The washer inside the Click spring is essential.
With the spring washers, flip them and align the holes until there is a )( configuration.

Hi guys,I checked the diagram for the part code and seems that there is not supposed to be a washer between the click spring and star drag:Reefs do you know the code so I can order it?

Which model Saltiga do you have?
The Hyper has a washer, the ordinary 50 doesn't, but then on the Schematics of the Old one, there seems to be 2 bearing washers #55, either side of the bearing. I opened my 50 up and it only has 1 bearing washer and 1 inside the Click spring. (But that might be operator error  :dunno: )
Have you checked to see if the thick Spacer #60 is above the Star Drag?
