The Bek , comes from Struis , My neighbour  goes up there to deliver .

Jir those fish are dam wide now , and the tail too , 45's  so the price will remain high , as we have to run 3 hours there and three hours back .

The price drops , when in binnekommers come  in , some of them are working all ready , but the fish are still poor ...  400 kg to 800 kg per boat . hardly a bin Man man . Price drops happen when we do 4 to 8 bins man man .

R6.00 a kg you WILL NEVER EVER PAY as customer , Thats buy in prices hence completely irrelevant . the drop in price are mainly the Langaans that stuff up or under cut the local market . Once we start to get 2 ton 2.5 tons per boat then the price drops to those prices , but I can tell you guys now , it will not happen this year.
And the tail you buy from the boats you don't pay per KG , you pay per fish , and its never never more than 150 a piece size range from 3 to 6 kg .

And then theres they guys that sells ' hand line tjokka ' thats speartjokka , its imported Crap .

Tail From kenny over the counter in the harbour R65 per kg to R45 per kg .
theres no bel for sale in Struis , they all gets moved up coast or to CPT .

Back when I started going to sea with the Comms 1997 1998  , we got R10.00 P kg Bek , R10.00 Tail  and Shark R15.P KG  and Silvers R2.50 per kg . Thats what the buyers gave the skippers ....

I know now , Like for Redfish ,kitty /roman , R37.00 per kg buy in . they sell for R75.00 .

The guys putting in the hard work and hours always get screwed by the middle man. Back in the days when I sometimes went with the comms we got R6/kg for Kob and R4.50 for Hake. It was hard work, launched 5pm and returned 7am but I earned some extra bucks while doing what I love. Would I give up my current job to do it for a living, never.

Morning Lenny, there was some decent bek at the point as well for a bit, most of the shops in cape town have been displaying bek.  One boat got 500kg, but don't know if others also got before they went again.

I get my tail off the boat as well per fish when possible.  But like ive said on many threads i would not mind the price for local caught tail to hover round the 75/kg mark constantly in shops, and the guy on the boat getting a more constant p/kg price.

The Bek only Bites in CPT , when the seas are really big , heard about those inside the point . but they are long gone . Maybe maybe they will show with the big seas expected ...

So the Strand Seadogs , will have a ball , smokkeling baby bek again .

Any truth in the rumour that the Eastern Cape has had some good catches of Chokka and prices are under a 100 bucks a kg in the P.E. area ?

I saw two of my buddies that's skippers in the pe area, talking on fb this morning , did not say anything about good catches , but they don't blast it over the web when they do..
The rumour might be true , and or they guys are coming of the sea for easter .
