Musandam Oman with Ocean Active
« on: February 23, 2015, 05:22:47 AM »
Been quite a long time since I posted any reports from Oman. We been busy at work getting our new website and online shop up and running www.oceanactive.com along with setting up some new boats for charters in Oman and UAE. A lot of exciting things happening but all the time we have still been catching some good fish especially in the Musandam with winter GTs, sailfish, kingfish and even a few marlin.

I will keep the reports coming under this topic for Musandam, really been operating over the winter and been one of the best seasons we have had in a long time.

For more information on products, reports and information check out our new website www.oceanactive.com or www.facebook.com/oceanactive or drop us a message to nick@oceanactive.com

Cheers,
Nick

Cracker of a  day in the Musandam, we had Ian Jones and his wife Caroline come and fish for  their 10th Anniversary with lady luck on our side I just knew it was going to  be a super day.

And lady  luck it was with Caroline hooking into the first GT on the boat with a bit of  help from Mr Anura she landed a beauty of a fish of 20kgs, I could see the  jealousy on Ian’s face with his wife getting a GT before him on her first GT  trip ever!! After a few minutes Ian hooked up into a fish right at the boat Ian  made short work of it and pumped it to the boat for myself to land a lovely  healthy 28kg GT.

We moved  spots Ian now asked me to have a fish with him as his wife was now relaxing  catching some sun, I hooked up into a little GT of 10kg a few photos then  released. Next up Ian hooked up again into a good GT taking a good amount of  line finally got the fish to the boat landing a good GT of 32kg. Next up was  myself again on the fisherman 200gram stick bait onto a nice size GT with my FCL Labo 7,8ft extreme heavy such a awesome rod the fish had no chance had it  to the boat for Anura to grab onto and land fish weighed 25kg.

Was a  super day out landing 6 GT of 32kg, 28kg, 25kg, 20kg, 20kg and 10kg and 2 fish  hooks pulled and another good couple fish came up and had a look at the lures.  Nice to see such good size fish around in good numbers in winter!

Caroline and  Ian on the way up to the Musandam! Got to know you have married the right  person to be able to go GT fishing on your anniversary!

Capt Anura at  the helm! Very proud of this guy for how far he has come since he joined the  team!

Capt Damon and Eric went for a fish the plan was to try for the sailfish but they had lock jaw and didn't want to play ball so they decided to go drop a jig getting a double on 2 decent GTs one of 30kg and a 23kg fish and then landing a smaller MT (mini trevally) of 5kg. Eric got stuck into a 15kg king on a 15g halco twisty on light spinning gear, great day out for some winter GTs. Amazingly we picking up GTs in water around the 19-22 Degree mark!

Nice double up on jig

Mark Cromar had a great trip out with us. Mark was staying at the Six Senses Resort in Dibba and wanted to get out and fish for GTs for a day as he had fished before in Fiji and keen to get a bit of action!
Mark got some great winter GTs on the Race Point and Siren Crazy Charlie. Mark went 3 out of 4 with the biggest 27kg.
Cheers,
Team Ocean

Last week I had Tayfun Meric come and join me all the way from  Turkey for a fish in the Musandam for a couple days , Tayfun had fished with us  before and managed to get himself a MT Trevally (baby GT). He was back for  round 2 in search of the big one. The first day we went out nice and early and  went to one of the spots up at the top from the first drift Tayfun was in the  action hooking into a 1,5m bull shark fish on weight  to measurement table put the fish at 60kg fish was caught on a  fisherman 10-110 stickbait, Tayfun was stoked with the catch but still  after the GT. The next drift a good fish came up on the stick bait and tight  after a good tussle Tayfun had the fish at the boat for myself to land fish was  32kg, a quick few photos and the fish was released and a happy man!  Next  drift 4th cast bang tight again with a 27kg GT, a few pics and fish released.  We did a few more drifts had a follow or 2 but no hook ups so we decided to put  the long fisherman popper and first drift with the popper and bang tight with  another good fish, Tayfun putting the gears on the fish and got it to the boat  in no time landing a good 22kg GT.

Day 2
Fishing was a bit tough due to windy  conditions but Tayfun got a nice GT of 28kg on the fisherman popper again and  hooked up into either a marlin or a big sail on jig after a 1h 45min fight the  hook pulled 10m under the boat was very unlucky.

Tayfun had a great trip and very happy with his new Fisherman  lures working from our shop. Its great that the fish are pulling in big  time in the Musandam and such good healthy size fish and such good numbers.

Thanks Capt Damon
