Your freezer this summer.
« on: January 02, 2015, 12:27:06 PM »
Thought I would share with you how to improve the operating conditions of your chest freezers.
I have been operating my bait and venison freezer this way for many years now and I have found that my bait lasts better
and my meat doesn't get freezer burn from touching the sides. The lattice work also allows for more movement of the cold
as it doesn't get "choked up" behind the product. On most freezers there is no refrigeration piping on top of the "step"on the inside
of the freezer and therefore this area, directly above the compressor, is most prone to temperature change during the off cycle or during our famous power cuts. For this reason I place the freezer packs under the products in this area.
This simple DIY can improve the life span of your bait and meat products. Regular defrosting is also important and if your gasket is getting a bit tired clean the surfaces and rub on a bit of good old Blue Seal Vaseline. Attached 3 pics.

Nice idea ZAk... did you glue the lattice in or is free standing/removable?

When expanded the lattice locks into the sides on each end this holds them in place, thereby allowing them to be removed at any time or simply when defrosting.
