daiwa brake blocks
« on: October 30, 2013, 04:37:04 PM »
Hi guys.
Want to install the brakes on my Saltist.
Are the red/black blocks different "strengths"
I suppose the best would be to go out and test them.
Thanks

The red ones are longer and heavier, therefore will brake harder due to centripetal force.

i always thought that the black would brake more if the "lip" side was to touch the drum ? Larger surface area ?

Personally, I don't think even Ray Hall will notice the difference between the 2. (Just kidding Ray). It's really immaterial which ones will brake 0.25633% more than the other... :craz:

Homie, Homie, Homie !!!
Force due to friction is independent of the contact area.
Science 101.
 :hehe: :crzy

Obviously I didn't have science 101 - then I would have realized the smaller ones would brake less!!
 duh

Thanks guys.

Spot on! For the same reason, different size diameter Drag washers will have the same Drag force.

That is the first thing I remove when I bought a reel. I am casting bigger distances with out the brake shoes than with them.

My thumb is a brake block , doe'snt fit inside the spool though ..  :creep:

True i doubt the surface area between the 2 types will make much of a noticeable difference , i use the black one just for the record , oh and my thumb as well ..
