I have ordered a 21 foot FC and will be starting a new thread on the build progress thereof.
Not sure what the waiting period is on the 17foot but I gave Dave my order on 10 October and after chatting to him yesterday he said that it will be completed by early December - around 8 - 9 weeks.

I have fished off the 21foot Tomcat and must say its an awesome boat, congratulations. Regarding the new Seacat its going on special for R335K with 2 x 70hp Yamaha 4 strokes (Nov/Dec ski boat). Good to have competition in the market as it keeps quality up and prices down.

Sad part with the sea cat is its only powered by yamaha (great motors) so it tends to be more pricy than other rigs where you can shop around for better deals on equally good motors.

Those 70 4 strokes are apparently lightest 4 strokes (in that power range) with lowest fuel consumption. Weigh less than other 50/60hp 4 strokes.
 
Must be phenomenal engines.
 
But all this goete we speculating about is rather new, and very new technology, afraid they all going to have to prove themselves over next few years in cost, reliability, maintenance, spares etc before we will know who the better is. Dont trust the salesmen they'll tell you anything to sell their wares.
 
Allready aware of bad experiences and very high repair costs with the new 4-strokes but its too early to form opinions. A lot will have to crystalise and lay in a bit before we can make up our minds.

The Yamaha 70hp 4's (120kg) are the lightest in the 70-75hp range.
The 60hp 4's on the market are less - Honda at 110kg and Suzuki at 106kg.  Not sure about the Yamaha 60hp as the company seems incapable of updating its website!

Very mixed reaction.

Since then the Seacat 565 has established itself very well but not much has been said about the 520.

All the recent discussion of the yield 17 and 19 refers and I want a bigger boat on the water but I must get it there and be able to handle it alone and for that the 520 is better.

i had a 520 cc with 2 x F60's on the back.
Very nice boat, easy to handle and easy to tow. We ofter launch with 2 of us. Surf launching and not sheltered launch.
Nice layout and plenty deckspace. If i go another one i would go FC with 2 x F70's.

I had my mind made up on a Seacat 520.

My son then brought up the Vaal and we decided the best all rounder is a big rubber duck.

So our search continues.

If you want a boat to use for the Vaal skiing and tubing a cat does not work must say a rubber duck is a temporary boat at best

I think if one wants to Ski and Tube and fish, then you should probably look at a Fusion or Expression....the Fusions look beautiful!

I was at the Fusion factory a few minutes ago …. beautifully built boats.  I have fished off the 19 quite a lot and the ride + stability is very good for a 19' mono. The 17 gets great reviews (from owners) as well. Fusion has been going for about 5-6 years and you hardly ever see a used one come up for sale ... and usually its the owner going for a larger Fusion. There must be a reason for that.

So if there is anyone interested, mate of mine won a Seacat 520 with the new 70 Yamaha 4 strokes on it in a fishing compo last year.
This boat went into storage and have never been on water, he is looking for R370K for it.


I think that is a real bargain as it is brand new !
