Inhaca March 2019-REEL TITE1
« on: March 19, 2019, 02:56:58 pm »

Howzit Chaps, thought I would give a quick update on our recent trip to Inhaca. It was that time of the year when I do my annual trip upto Inhaca for 2 weeks. I had 2 groups of mates joining and 1 was after Marlin and the others more the Gamefish crowd. With all the recent publicity regarding the Chinese, I left for the first time feeling rather apprehensive. Anyway we had a good weather window and the time was right so off we went.

First day came and we were up and out early, collected some bait and off we went to the Deep. It didnt take long for our first Customer to come and pay a visit and we were rewarded with a nice Blue Marlin. About 45 min later we had a lovely crash bite on the left short and it was game on again. I took punishment from my mates as I had forgotten the Black Magics in Camp so they had their hands full! Anyway after about 35min or so we released number 2 for the day. Super start and super Chuffed!! We then settled down into a bit of a quite time and eventually we raised a nice fish which absolutely piled onto the Short Rigger. We had a Solid Hook up and after a Short while, everything went slack. Disappointed we found that somehow the fish had broken through the leader, not sure how but it was gone. We ended it off with some nice Jigging and managed a couple Sarda sarda and Skippies while a shoal of Dorado paid us a visit. A couple of Livebaits and we had dinner in the hatch!

TBC....

Day 2: A day of fishing I wont ever forget!! The Chaps were quite buckled after the previous day(little did they know what was to come) and we set off slightly late, stopped off to collect Livebait and off we went to the Deep. We set a Spread and worked a area Close to where the action was the previous day and started to settle down and watch lures and talk nonsense etc. around 10am we had our first fish up and on the Short left. We had not forgotten the Harnesses and it was boatside in 30min, safely released and swam off strong. A good start and the boys were wide awake. It didnt take long and we had another fish up on the Long right and it also found Steel and off ot went greyhounding! No. 2 was boatside, photos taken and safely released. What a start to the day, and it was just after 11, what lay ahead we thought. We had a brief lull. Made a Change to the Long Left Lure and straight away we had a fish up onto the Illander express that was just set and it missed totally after having 2 massive goes and not connecting. We made a turn and worked our way back with a more favourable track and we had a Really good fish come up on the Express again and hit the lure out the Rigger Clip and not connect, as the lure came back upto the surface and puffed, Bang!! A smaller fish piled onto it, and off it went Greyhounding. Straight away the Long Right burst out the Clip and we were on, Double Up!!! Chaos Chaos Chaos....no words can describe what was going on! These 2 fish both took off in the same direction Greyhounding in Formation before one doubled back and we then had them clear of eachother but with 550m of line out in opposite directions. Anyway Cat and mouse ensued and we eventually released the first fish. Another 20min and we had No.4 up boatside and off she went!! Man we were over the Moon and it was just past 13:30 and we had released 4 Blues already. We worked the area and didnt have much action but it was in the back of my mind to try and come in Shallower and hopefully bump a Stripey on the way in and then maybe try for a Grandslam. We started making our way in around 14:30 after no further action and after a while we had 2 Stripeys come in and they both connected on their first attacks!! We had the first one boat side quite quickly and it gave me a real working over on the leader and managed to strike me through the face with the Bill, luckily nothing serious. No.5 released safely. We then went after the next one and man did this little guy have some fight in him!! He was taking heavy Drag like a beast and caused chaos next to the boat. Once I had him on the Bill, he smashed me to pieces against the boat. Anyway No.6 was done and released safely!! Wow...high 5’s all around and we couldnt believe it. We then headed back in and tried our best along the drop looking for a Black or Sailie but it wasnt to be....we went 7-6, 2 Doubles, couldnt really ask for much more....maybe a little😂😂 just 1 Saily!! What a day and that night the 🍻 flowed!!

Day 3: There was some Wind forecast and we took it easy. We fished on the Sandbanks and got a bunch of Kawa Kawa and Couta.

Day4: headed back to the Deep and we had a good day but was very frustrating as we also had the luck of the Irish. We raised a couple fish but they were lazy on the Bite. Eventually we raised a fatty and she piled onto the Long rigger. She took heaps of line and unfortunately she doubled back on herself and with about 450-500m of Line in the water she swam over the Top shot and cut us off. We were desperately disappointed but that was our bad luck for the day. We ended up loosing another after a short battle as well. We eneded the day off woth some fishing around the ships and managed some nice YFT and Kawas. Good fun.

Day 5: we got to the Deep and as we set the Spread with the first lure going into the clip, a Blue came up for Breakfast and we were on straight away. We managed to realease the fish around 45min Later and that was it for the day. Nothing else paid us a visit.

Day 6: Started off terribly slow and we worked our way out to the target area and just slogged away. We desperately wanted 10 for the week and tried our hardest. Eventually we got a fish up and it got bill wrapped and went absolutely wild on the surface. Was truly a sight to see. It just jumped all over the place and eventually got loose. We slogged away and them got a enquiry on the Short left which we had boatside in no time as it was a small fish. Man then this fish went wild, it gave a mate of mine a severe beating on the leader and the chaps were scrambling to get away from the gloves to grab it. No.10 for the week was safely released!! We spent the Rest of the Afternoon looking for YFt etc in the shallows to end off a absolutely awesome week!!! We had 15 Hook ups and released 8 Blues and 2 Stripeys!

The rest of the Gang arrived and we did 1 day of Marlin fishing for them and we had a good day with some Bad luck. It started off really slowly and the Bite had slowed down considerably. We raised the first fish and managed to get it hooked up and after a good aerial display we realeased a nice healthy Blue. It didnt take long and we had another fish come up on the Short have a look and a swipe or 2 and miss then fade back onto one of the Longs and same thing before fading off. It was frustrating to say the least. We marked 2 more fish but couldnt get a bit. Then we had a fish come onto the long Rigger and sit behind the Lure and follow for probably 20 seconds before commiting....once it committed it smashed the lure and we had a Solid Hooku Up and off she went for the horizon Greyhounding and giving a amazing display. Sadly it wasnt meant to be and she parted off the Wind-On leader on the Dacron. Must have been worn out and not checked thoroughly by myself. Saddest was my best  lure was no more.....

The rest of the week we focused on Gamefish and we had a good time. We got a couple nice fish on Jigs, light flick sticks and then Livebait. There was little to no activity on lures. We didnt get Big fish but we managed a lot of Couta around 5-8kg woth a Couple over 10kg, biggest was about 14kg I guess. We had 1 particularly busy day and the Jigging at “The Well” was insane although we battled to get a fish past the Johnnies. The big  :gt: were out to Play and issued a few proper Hidings!! Anyway I think we can say we had a succesful trip and the fishing was much better than anticipated!!

Thanks very much for the kind words, it was a incredible week! GT Mayhem I keep it very simple when Marlin fishing, I only swim 4 Lures, these are made up of 2 Active and 2 Passive Lures, rigged accordingly. I use Bonze Lures, Bahama and Illander express mostly.
