what are the rules for this kind of competition?what line thickness / rod length / reels apply? Not that I think I can get even close to those distances just like to know? Are there separate competition and rules for using grinders and multiplier reels?
SA hosted the recent Sport Fishing World Games (a FIPS sanctioned event) In terms of distance casting (I was an official for the 1 practice day and 4 days of competion) 150g (5.25oz) record was broken twice on the 2nd day 1st time was by Rafael Sanzo from Uruguay with a cast of 280.65m 2nd time Filippo Montepagano from Italy achieved 281.19m 125g (4.4oz) 280.69m Filippo Montepagano (Italy) with Salvador Bustos in 2nd with a throw of 280.26m100g (3.5oz) record was also broken with a throw of 269.68m.For those who think they can cast... 281m is FAR. Very, very far
Out of interest, do you know what line they are using to achieve those distances with, and leader material? What knot do they use to attach and what guide setups are they using on those long butt multiplier rods?... Interesting, that the top three aren't grinder fans, what about the rest of the top ten? Where was the first placing grinder caster? There is not much info on the event online that I can find..results and all.
