Title: Bimini Twist
Post by: Star on May 27, 2012, 08:06:19 PM
Just curious to know.Normally after the 20 odd wraps the guys normally place the loop created around their knees, where else can this loop be placed around in order to finish it of.Especially the hairy guys.

Can also be placed around the foot , although can be uncomfortable trying to finish off the Bimini in that position , best place to keep the loop open to finish off the bimini is still on the knee.

I agree with Rory, the Aussie Plait is a very neat alternative and very easy to tie. If you want to carry on with the Bimini try a little trick that I use:

- thread the line through the guides on your rod, then stand the rod up in a rod holder or against the wall
- pull out enough line to go around the reel handle plus a 60cm tag end
- do your 20-24 wraps and then put the loop around the reel handle with the drag tightened
- turn the reel handle until there is a firm tension in the line
- lubricate the wraps and do the Bimini (you now have 2 hands to do this so use your index finger to spread the loop upwards and the other hand to control the tag end wrapping down towards the loop)
- finish the knot off with 2 half hitches and a 4 turn reverse uni knot

Done! This works anywhere even on the boat in rough seas and you don't need to use knees / elbows / buddies! Give it a try it will definitely help....

100% Bwana. I used to use the knees but once you are comfortable with the knot, just hook it around any object and use the index finger. Just make sure the object is rounded and non abrasive. Door handle works great when at home.

Good tips.  I use my big toes or feet if I am wearing my gumboots.
