We all know baiting up can be a somewhat messy, tedious and difficult to do especially in low light conditions or in the dark , some of you maybe already do this , but none the less here's my tip for making baiting up easier . We all to familiar with the normal method of attaching foam to the hook as a base to build up a bait on and to assist with flotation . This is what you need:
-
Heres the standard /normal method of foam cut to size and cottoned onto the hook with a tooth pick through the eye of the hook , with 2 small ends standing proud for the bait to have a purchase on and to assist in keeping it all together when bound up with cotton:
-
Here's the end product , ready for whatever bait you are using :
-
Now the difficult part is never having anything to hold onto while cottoning the bait on the hook, and im sure we've all tried with slimy fingers to hold on to the hook snoot above the foam to try and bind the bait properly.... can be difficult and frustrating , so adding a tooth pick to the foam just under the hook and trimming it to the desired length and then binding up with cotton , solves this problem as you have something more solid to grasp with wet/slimy , cold fingers + you can build more streamlined and longer baits , especially with chokka strips / occie legs , etc
-
Now one can add any "bling" to your well shaped and presented bait like eg .. a skirt , glow bead etc..
-
:win: Mike! Cool post.

-
Further to stop the skirt /bead sliding up the line in a cast or while being washed around in the surf zone and if you using a small cork for extra flotation ,keeping the bait suspended in a different column of water or off the seabed away from the crabs etc , the float acts as a stopper by inserting a toothpick in the hole where the line enters the cork thereby locking the line in place , neaten the cork and toothpick combination up by trimming the toothpick off as short as possible at the cork , be careful ot to cut the line or nick it which will lead to a break-off
-
Finally heres the complete hook snood showing that the skirt / glowbead or what ever you used will travel up to the cork/float which is locked in place and not further:

:shre: Nice and Simple Mike.

:tkx: chasps , and u can apply this to most traces big or small , just scale up or down accordingly. :-) .
