Hi guys
this is a trace that Ive seen afew provincial anglers aswell as many club anglers use. The first time I saw this trace was actually in a post on another forum by Ray Hall so i have done it the lengths and stuff that I use now.
First what you need to make it:
>1.5-2m of wire of your choice here im using 120lb carbon coated steel for winter non eds around cape town like spearnose skates etc
>2x your favorite hooks here im using 8/0 kendals
>one crimp
>power swivel im using a size 1/0
>2 beads (3 if you put one in the 3 way swivel.)
>3 way swivel im using a size 8
>heat shrink for a but of bling bling .
>cutters
-
Then put your two hooks back to back and snell them in place.
-
Then just under half way up the trace put a crimp and crimp it. This will create a semi running trace.
Then put a bead then a three way swivel then another bead.
(normally i would put a bead inbetween the legs of the three way swivel but i ran out of the right beads for that...)
-
then i slide a piece of heat shrink onto the wire the size of the heat shrink depends on the wire but for 120lb i use 3mm heat shrink.
Then tie your swivel on at the top of the wire you can use any knot that you choose but i like to use the half flemish with wraps(I think that its called that???) and im yet to have this knot slip or brake...
to start the knot do an overhand knot in the wire.
then put the tag end back through the swivel...
and then do your wraps the finished product should look somthing like this..
-
Now as an optional extra put some heat shrink on the knot.
-
Now your trace is finished!
this is what it should look like.
-
here is one example of how to bait up this trace.
hope this helps people who want to make throw traces...
-
Nice Steve! Never seen the back to back hooks before! :shk Learn something new every day!! Have some cred!
-
i haven't used it but it is supposed to be the best trace for getting a decent hookup on a cow shark.
-
Thanks Steve was wondering how they do those back to back hooks, havnt had the opportunity to see one close up to steal with my eyes :hehe:
-
I have seen this used for GTs up at Linene Island using mono (40lb maxima i think) to create the snell on the shanks only (i.e. like an albright knot onto the shanks if this makes any sense!?!). This 2 hook rig was then used in place of a treble on a live bait slide rig...
Worked like a charm..
