I am planning a short trip to Salt Rock in May. Havent been there for ages I think the last time was in 1990. So obviously things have changed around there. I can remember at Chakas Rock theer used to be a nice big natural tidal pool. Does anyone knows if this tidal pool is still there?
-
Tidal pool is still there Willie, PM Durran on the forum he has a nice spot for sharks and rays off Salt Rock been there twice but can't recall the areas name. Just don't leave anything visible in the car as break ins happen often at this area.

Thanks Prego the was pool was great to snorkel in.

Ill be watching this thread with interest. I *might* be heading there in December :yipee:

Will take lots of pics of the place HP.

The tidal pool is still there Willie, and on the seaward side like a man-made pulpit for fishing.
Can imagine fishing from it at high tide must be an experience and sliding for sharks some fun although there are plenty rocks in the water all round it.
Park in the grounds of the Salt Rock Hotel it seems perfectly safe. If I remember, the caravan park virtualy borders on the tidal pool so fishing there should be reasonably safe too.

Caught my biggest shad(3kgs) from that pulpit, nice place to fish, easy to slide from there.
-
Going about 100 to 150 meters right of the tidal pool as you are facing the sea is a rockpool at low tide about waist deep nice place to snorkel. Thanks Toppie there used to be a jetty as well but cannot see any pictures.

Very good spot to fish from. Just of to the left on the beach is good for the pomies and brusher. North you have High Rock, very easy to fish from even if the sea is a bit big. Good scratching grounds on the low tide to the right for bronz Bream. Further south you have Boulders. Very nice for smaller grey sharks and is protected from the west.
That whole area is very good for fishing from the south at Samon Bay to the north at Xmas Bay. If you let me know closer to the time I can take you up and down and show you what to do and where to do it.

Many thanks Fritz always there to help. :udman: It looks like a good place to try the spinning outfit. Will let you know when I will be coming down it should be around the end of May or first week in June.
We will be staying at Salt Rock caravan park.
-
You will then have the photo that Toppie posted as a view.
If you go a bit further north towards Xmas bay you will get to Dave Rock. Place is very good for the snoek with a spinnin outfit. The sea has to be in a good state for this to happen. You can spin from High Rock as well. You get snoek, kingies and even bonnies from their.
-
Sorry for the hi jack Willie but Fritz what's the area like for non eds? Also what conditions would you look for when spinning there for snoek etc?
-
HP years ago when I was still young and good looking the guys used to catch lot of sharks from that point on the photo dont know what the situation is at the moment. If i can remeber correctly you need to cast about 100mtrs of from that point to get onto deep water.
-
That whole area is good for the sharks and flat fish. Seeing that you will be here in Dec. I will take you to Rapsons where you are sure to be strethed by a sandy and good butterfly's.
Dont hasle to much guys I will show you the grounds, they are my home grounds after all and have fished many a comp their.
