A while ago i bought this ice cream container full of what is the spares of an old Saltist 50 that had seen better days. Paid a full R300 bucks for it.
The Star drag was stripped. The Shaft was very rough and one or two of the drag washers was missing. The anti reverse bearing was missing all its needles.

I dunked the frame and side plates in some paint stripper.
After wards all residual paint was carefully removed.
I then first primed it with automotive primer whereafter it was coated with 2k finishing black.
Baked in the wife's oven for 15 minutes and it was done.

So far cost was
Carbontex R165

AR Bearing R60-00
Box of spares R300-00

This is what it looks like all done.

Awesome Sakkie! What a great job! (clap)
Tell us a bit more please... I have many questions...
The "2k finishing black" - what exactly is this? Enamel that needs to be baked?
How dis you manage to keep the paint out the working parts?
Did you battle to put it back together again with the paint coat affecting the tolerances slightly?
Where did you source all the spares from?
Thanks mate!

2K Finishing black is like a duco that you get at automotive or panel beating stores.
Just be carefull not to coat it to thick. Made the mistake of spraying to many layers. Had to re strip and do it over.
Where the sides join the frame you really have to be careful with the paint. To thick and the side plates will not go on.
The 2k can be baked in an pre-heated oven of about 60 degrees for +- 15 minutes. Makes the paint very hard.
The reel was completely stripped down to bare side plates and a bare frame.
I bought all the parts from local tackle stores.
Carbontex from Whaler.
Try to get a spray gun that you can almost use as a airbrush. Paid R199-00 for this one. Really happy with it. Made by Airtcraft.

Sharkslayer really very very nice post.
@Reefman the 2K paint is a two part paint. The paint is mixed with a hardener just before using. Obviously it cannot be stored after mixing. Very hard and durable when baked. In summer even a sunny spot for about an hour is enough to cure it well.
