Title: Draining the Vaal Resrvoir, above the Barrage.
Post by: Herman Jooste on April 09, 2012, 03:51:20 PM
The below is a synopsis of an article in the Vanderbijlpark Ster ( our local rag ).

Ms Cloete Anderson , Chairperson of  the Emfuleni Tousrism Association says;
" Rand Water will be lowering the level of the water in the Vaal River Reservoir by about 1.5 meters from 15 June to 18 June."

"Lowering will be done gradually for 4 days before and will be filling again for 4 days afterwards"

"  The Loch will be perceived as being lower, but as the Loch is only about 1.5m deep anyway, it will be almost empty."

Now what I want to know is:

At what rate will the Barrage be releasing water to EMPTY that massive body of water over 4 days. :dunno:

How much CRAP that is lying in the sediment above the Barrage is going to be washed down the vaal during the draining. :dunno: :unhap

At what rate are they going to release water from the Vaal Dam to full up the Reservoir again . :dunno:

This all in prime winter fishing season.  :unhap :unhap :unhap

this is normal happens every 4 years or so, people can then do maintenance on there river fronts and any serious debris in the river can be removed if need be. the river drops fairly quickly as they open plenty sluice gates and the close them again for the river to rise again there is no sudden drop or wall of water that comes crashing down.

They did it 3 or 4 years ago, but that was before the floods of the last 3 years. :shk

I just want to know how much CRAP and that is what it is will be exposed.
