It is no secret that our fishing stocks are under severe threat.
A critical part of Ultimate Angling's ethos is to support sustainable fishing practices.
- We promote the principle of Catch and Release. Every fish released today, has the potential of being caught tomorrow.
- We encourage our members to become responsible anglers, by taking only what can be consumed fresh.
- We encourage Skippers and Charters to set rules on their boats, and to educate their clients in the merits of Catch-Photo-release.
- Fishing is a privilege, not a right! Preserve this privilege for your children and for future generations!
Limit your catch, don't catch your limit!
-
I support and will at all times do my utmost to comply with and promote the ethos of Ultimate Angling!

From a personal and business point I am 100% behind the UA Ethos.
-
I agree 100%

Absolutely 100% in support of this ethos :uarocks

Great way to make a stand Admin!!! Love it.
-
Real men release!
Behind this 100%
-
100% behind it!!

I also support those values..
I release all billfish, and fish that are not good eating or not sustainable like kingies, Queenies, all tuna apart from YFT, all bottomfish, except the odd cob if we get it at Zini.
I do teach responsible fishing.
It's a fact that the feeling you feel after releasing a fish beats taking it out any day.
but I do need to add something that I have mentioned in the past.
I like fish, I eat fish, I take fish to eat too. Will keep doing so, but it will be responsible, and it will be from pelagic species that are fast growing like dorado and couta.
I'd rather eat fish that I have caught (sustainable methods) than release fish just to go eat it at ocean basket where you do not know how they caught it and by what method.
If this is in contrast to the UA ethos then so be it but I doubt it. (Admin ??)
-
I agree with you Jean, nothing wrong with taking a fish for the pot in a responsible way.
-
Behind that all the way! :uarocks
@ Sailor: Great to have you back :win:
-
This has my complete support. JS go to John Dory they serve :dor: that is caught in a dam.
-
I'm in full support of the ethos!
I always release fish, unless they die during a fight, or sustain fatal injuries during the fight.

Correct. Your last tag being made in 1998.
Just keep digging the trench deeper! duh
-
THANK YOU Admin,
Fully support this.
Being responsible does not mean you cannot keep a fish for the pan or braai, but stocking a freezer: AIKONA!
O Ja. Welcome back Sailor!!
-
100% support for C&R.
100% support for sustainable fishing.
But if a fish dies during the fight please bring it back don't leave it floating around.
-
I support this 100%
But let do it responsibility e.g like fighting a game fish (Natal snoek, couta, Queen fish and Tuna etc) on super light for two hours and then try and put it back in the water, and find it floating later. Best make sure that it realy still alive and strong by waiting a bit longer.
So what the best salution ban all light line fishing 2kg to 5kg ?
Also what about all these fishing comps, one just have to go to a weight in and see all the small fish being weighed e.g 3-6kg couta, 1-3kg Queen makrel and 1-4kg Bonnies etc
So what best, don't enter comps? As most majour brands support them e.g Yamaha, Landrover etc
Will keep some fish for my pan and the children homes....
-
I agree 100% with this concept
LIMIT YOUR CATCH DON'T CATCH YOUR LIMIT
Beside I want my lightie to also enjoy offshore angling when he's old enough!
-
Caught on Sunday, both fishies were released plus minus 70cm each, much more fullfilling than having them for dinner.
-
Nice Dave!! :+ cred: on the releases!! (clap)
-
(clap) :+ cred: :resp:

Thanks Reefs, it's refreshing to see UA advocating catch and release, definately has motivated me to be more pro-active. :uarocks
-
Behind it 100%. Its really sad when you see people catching blacktail and stumpies that are smaller than your palm and putting it in the bag. I haven't even caught a steenie and by the time I go down to the coast again, they'll probably not be their anymore.
-
As a Bass Angler I would say that 99% of our community is behind the Catch and Release Ethos.
I was very surprised to see how many other disciplines are not, they will fill bakkies with freezers on the back with fish so they can sell them. Very sad indeed
-
Live by the rule......................die by the rule ;-)
You all :geet :rck"
-
100% behind this !
:+ cred: rofflign

100% behind ultimates ethos and so are my kids :appr:

The ethos here is all well and good, but I have noticed that many Ski boaters sell their fish? On occasion when we have been at Dbn Ski Boat Club there are guys asking if we have any fish to sell. I am not sure if they are just taking a chance, or they are used to getting fish?
I have fairly fundamental objections to guys with 1M+ rigs selling fish, but am probably slightly more tolerant of the guy battling to make ends meet, that sells a few fish or bait fish to enable them to live. I have a friend that used to have a commercial fishing license, but various BEE requirements made it so onerous, that he eventually sold everything and gave up on it. Based on this, I can understand why some guys get pissed and take advantage as the ANC have made it very difficult for such a person to make a viable venture of it.
Having said that, I am a hobbyist and this is one of my hobbies. As such I don’t expect anyone else to pay for my other hobbies, and so there is no reason to sell fish to pay for this hobby. We are probably not much of a danger to fish stocks anyway as we are only at the coast 2-3 times a year and when we are there, we regard it as a successful day if we boat one fish. We did manage to bag a couple of Darado and to be honest I don’t feel bad taking a small cool box of Fish up to JHB, but so far this tends to be unusual as we never seem to bag loads in a day and what we catch is usually scoffed quick smart by family and mates.
Based on what I see at the launch register, I am not convinced that Ski boaters represent a major problem. I know there was an article in this months ski boat magazine where a fellow that has been both a serious trawler grade fisherman as well as a recreational ski boater for many years opined that, recreational fisherman are responsible for the decline in the fish stocks?
I would like to see data supporting any contentions either way.
I think most of all, I would like to see some consistent enforcement efforts that would make me feel better about paying an annual fishing license fee that seems to achieve exactly nothing. We should have boat owning agencies enforcing fishing rules both near shore and further out, day and night, and credible data being used to make decisions on what should be allowed when.
