Title: WK Wants A Dam!
Post by: WalkersKiller on March 13, 2012, 12:42:42 PM
So guys after a long time fishing venues close to where I stay and getting annoyed, I have been thinking this for a while now...

At the moment I am in a monetary crisis, but would like to start planning it anyway and any input from you guys or suggestions will be much appreciated!

I might (MIGHT) have a piece of land where I can build... So that is a start, otherwise I will have to look around...

I am thinking of making the dam between a quarter and a square kilomtetre, stocking it with bass, carp, barbel and tilapia to begin with...

I can get fish, material, landscaping etc.

So that is also sorted...

Will keep you guys in the know of what happens, in the mean time as I said any comments, suggestions, ideas will be appreciated, whether negative or positive  :-)

WK dam building is serious business and you do need approval from Gov. I had to break down a little wall I put up in the stream that pass my house and nearly walked away with a big fine. But if you come right that will be great your own private fishing spot  (clap)

Something that has done well on the coast is Tuckers Dam. Has a 4x4 track and camping facilities and a pub with a deck and an awsome braai area. Would be great to have something just dedicated for fishing but honestly the more activites that you can do well the better in the long run

Yeah I can build it quite easily if I say it is for private use, I have an aquaculture qualification as well so I can  always use that to get the go ahead  :-)

Nope...

WATER !

whats the water situation like ?
is the stream/river capable of sustaining a dam of that size, while still being able to flow downstream  ?
is the stream sustaining life lower down ?
How will this affect that ?

Hows the lay of the land ? if the dam wall breaks, what damage can be caused ?

Homie is correct that is what I got clapped on. But just imagine if it was possible a dam with 2 sections freshwater and saltwater. The one side you catch trout the other raggie's.

Kumz I will pm you...

Like I said the plan is not in implementation left, we are partners with people who build dams and ponds etc. so there advice will be asked for and also costs wont be a lot because we are involved in that industry, we do the internet marketing for them, they do the actual ground work...

So far from an image I have seen the lay of the land is quite flat and its a big plot, with 2 streams coming into the property, both from a golf course/nature reserve, so that is good... I have filtration systems I will place into the inlet of the dam to make sure nothing bad gets in...

Havent physically seen it, but none of those factors will need to much attention...

The main thing is I need to secure some land... Stream or not, pumps can be placed underwater in specific positins
