Title: Durban Dolly's
Post by: Capt. Hook on March 09, 2012, 08:10:29 PM
We launched at 05h00 today  and made our way out of the harbour mouth, dropping lines in the shallows and  making our way slowly out deeper, the water in the bay was over 26deg.C and yet  as we got out we found the water to be green and only around 24deg.C.

Initially my plan was to  head South, but when looking at the dismal water conditions and a rather large  swell which looked bigger in the South I decided to head North and we made our  way out deep, only at 70m did we find cleaner water with temperatures up to  25.3deg.C.

There was no activity  early morning, could not even get a Kawa kawa to make a presence, and there  were no birds to be seen at all, nothing with wings or feathers, and the only  thing that we did see was some blue bottles.

As the Sun got higher and  we were in around 90m of water 2 lines went and we landed a Bull and Queen  Dorado, and then very shortly after the shotgun went with a large Bull bouncing  around before he came loose. After that things got quiet again and only when  heading back running with the swell did another reel go with another Queen  Dorado, as we got her closer to the boat, we saw a Sailfish was following her  in, but no matter what we tried he was not interested. About 20 minutes later  we saw another Sailfish jumping and we worked the area with no result.

We the stopped on some  deeper reefs and caught several nice sized slinger and a few other red fish  before making our way home.

It was interesting to note  that all the fish that we caught and dropped took lures with pink/white/blue  colour combinations.
