Reading through the angling forums I sometimes came across a name of a fish which was "greek" to me and some of the reference books did not list the common name at all because some were local and in other cases regional.
So I've compose a list a of what I think are the most common species caught.
The first list the common name are in alphabetical order and the second the scientific names are in alpabetical order

Alpabetical order- scientific names

great info thanks. I do have one question.
Why does 3 or 4 fish have the same scientific name. is it because they are a sub-species of the said scientific name?
-
Thats the problem we experience, the same fish can have different common names which could be local or regional or provincial.

Yes. The scientific name of any species is based on the Linnean binary system. It is composed of the genus and species. Sometimes and this is more prevalent in some groups than others (for e.g. mammals), subspecies are recognized and a third "name" is used.
