Hiya guys from a sunny 33 deg, 90 percent humidity , almost no wind Soddies.
The boaters are on their own mission and the strandlopers feel like adopted kids that nobody wants. The UA boaters are an awesome crew.
We've been fishing hard with a small measure of success. As mentioned, the boys are doing us proud and Marcelle with his 1.55m giant guitar made my day yesterday, nogal with a sl 30. Panic struck when the first run had him into his braid - 200m topshopt gone.
Took him 40 minutes to land it with an awesome swan dive by yours truly in the waves to get the fish onto the beach.
We'll hit the beach again at 17h00 with high at about 20h30.
Tonight we will put out about 15kg of bait. We've already eaten 2kg of prawns and Skrops is threatening us with a sardine braai.
Cheers - looking for some shade and some beers - we are almost out - he he he

Keep it going Andries!!
-
Andries, have you guys done any travelling?
-
There is zero beach access for vehicles and it is a bit of a damper.
PieterH with his broken knee, broken ankle, broken ? isn,t keen on walking. Skrops bought a car - no walking. Rain looks after the camp all day, ya well - the food is excellent.
We' basically fished the 2km north and south of the bay up to now - some really good spots - not unhappy about checking it out first.
Tomorrow we are going north to lake sibaya and 9 mile reef. I can't wait, stoked for this trip.
South is not going to work, too late now.
Having an awesome time scanning the area. Best spot is right on our doorstep.
Cheers.

Thanks guys for all your good wishes. If you want detail of the hours in the sun, carrying tackle boxes, bait and the lot up and down, no problem. I've got the sunburn and blisters to show for it. To my buddies who accepted the invite and the challenge - you guys have brass balls.
Let's have another beer.

Ja right now are have been on the beach for two hours, i got a bonnie and a chokka out on two different slides, water temp dropped and suddenly nothing is happening.
Last night this time we were catching some good fish now it is dead.
Still way better sitting here catching no fish than sitting in JHB thinking about it😳😳👍👍👍👍👍
-
Oh and thanks to our beer sponsor.... We did't need it.
Sponsors should actualy sponsor not just promise and not deliver

I said I'd sponsor some Moz beer and I will! They are here waiting to be transported to SA. I could not arrange reliable transport. Willie will take them next week. Apologies for the delay. You guys can enjoy them later at home while discussing the strategy for next year!
-
don't stress there are plenty bottle stores at sodwana you must just hope your hands can reach into your pockets
-
Sheeesh, all my life to go on holiday and somebody else sponsors my beer!!
-
Good morning south.
Piet and I spent 4 hours in front of the mseni lodge.
I haven,t seen such good looking and actually such a beatifull place in a very long timeM
Of 40 rods, I know of 2 fish, of which I caught one, a little wavy that went back in pices.
9 mile has been postponed to tommorrown 1ant to hit it early.
Will hit the bay ahain for a short session tonight, 3 or 4 hrs or so.
Tough for the beers, the gesture is awesome, next time we try to assist with the logistics.
Chat later.

The piont was not go on holiday and someone sponsors my beer.... What you think i am bloodsucking paracite?
I get told that beer are sponsored so i don't take any, then you get here and sponsers did not deliver, that is my problem Reefman.
No problem i go buy my own beer at R178 a case, no problem.
Dont make promises you cant keep, otherwise JohnF you should have let us know that you had a problem.
Generally this is the reason why dont participate on these forums no more cos people have a keyboard in front of them and think they are the king of world.
-
I have a severe dislike in blackberry. Makes my spelling look like 3rd grade.
Her's the road to paradise - not.

A few comments to this surprising comment.
1. Who told you, YOUR beer was sponsored? Me? Definitely NO! I said I would sponsor 4 x six-packs of Moz beer (different brands), as a good luck gift from across the border (suggest you read that thread - see below). In case you have not realized I live in MAPUTO (that's 600 Km from JHB) - also I was counting on a fellow UAer WILLIE to take it across the border. The opportunity did not materialize so far, but will happen in 2 weeks or so!
2. The beer I sponsored WILL definitely NOT cover all the team's needs!!!! So you should be prepared, anyway!!!!
3. Maybe you should spend a bit more time on UA, you'd find that people here are actually polite, grateful and try to help others all the time. Nobody here feels like king... well, not until now... so I think a bit of humility would do you good (+ an apology to Reefman and the rest of UA!)!!!!
4. -cred on my part for your rudeness!
:tite to the guys sweating out there and giving a damn about reporting to us behind a keyboard!
Here's the post I took from the initial thread http://www.ultimateangling.co.za/index.php?topic=7722.0 (http://www.ultimateangling.co.za/index.php?topic=7722.0)
Go team UA!!!!
To help setting the mood around the fire while discussing the fishing strategy, I'll donate 4 six-packs of Moz beer: 2M; Laurentina Lager; Laurentina Premium or Manica (Willie counting on you mate, to be the mule!!!)
-
JohnF,
Well said bud.
+Cred to you for the offer to sponsor a couple of beers to the boys!
Cheers,
Eugene

Skrops those comments were unnecessary :-(
Keep going guys loving the updates! :tite

Let's do this.
We've travelled far and won't stop now.
After waking up, in about 15 minutes or so, we will pack and hit the road to mile 9. Hopefully today will be that day of all days when every fish fights for our offer.

Hi Guys
Quick report from Team Liberty. First the great news is that Sarel from Team Backline won the comp!!!!! YeHa!!! Well done Sarel it is well deserved. We had a good week with some bad luck but cowboys dont cry. Shaggy will compile a full report with photos so I do not want to say too much. We did caught a saily and black marlin. The saily was the first for Bruce Mckenzie and Tunaman - Reinhard has caught the black marlin which is also his first marlin. Well done boys. Greg can fill in the rest but we had glorious hot weather and the easiest launch I have ever had at Soddies. 15 Strikes for the week shows that we did things right and we were unlucky to not have landed three marlin because of silly tackle failure. Dont trust any tackle bought in packets redo, all then you know your chances of loosing fish is mimimal.
Tight Lines
-
Hard luck Team Liberty, but good on ya to put Reinhard and Bruce Mckenzie onto a new species each! :cgrts:
Would you know what was all the species that backline had caught during the week?
-
Hi Prego
I know they have caught two marlin, wahoo, dorado, skipjacks, yellowfin tuna and cuta the numbers I do not know. Must say it is the largest schools of bonnies I've ever seen working the water. Sometime you get them feeding and the water was foaming like four rugby fields big.
There is certainly fish, cuta was small and scarce.
-
Thanks Big Van, I was under the impression it was a species comp so I was expecting a bigger list duh my bad
-
Thanks BV you made my year. Added to this the way you skipped for 5 straight days raising an incredible amount of fish. You know how to find them and have proven it yet again. Shag fed the black like a champion getting the circle right in the corner from there on in it was history. Great week with great friends. Was good getting to know Bruce and his dad Bill (aka Wild Bill). Great people and really enjoyed it. Learned a span and I do believe that we have a good recipe now that will produce anywhere. Franco picked up some war scars handling the black who just would not let down. Proof once again that it takes a crew to get the bills and the guy with the rod is just a small part in the machine.
On the last day just before lines up BV got into a Blue that took 600m on the first run. Hooks pulled 20m from the boat. What a display the fish put up. I have learned a lot from the Van's and Shag ..... thank you for sharing it with me and for your friendship.
(clap) (clap)
-

Prego it was a species comp but for us it was getting the marlin and then multiplying it. Marlin tagged = 200 points.
We got Wahoo, Skipjacks, Dorado and Sailies as bycatch.
-
Same with us Standlopers.
We tried. got burnt-walked on soaring hot sea sand. but it was lekker.
Thanks for all the people who made the trip posible and the sponcers.
Was especially nice to meet up with the crew of Liberty.
Thanks Stevan and crew.
We will see U there next year with a totally different approach. That podium will be ours for the taking.
Lets leave the report from our side to AndriesH.

Wow, great feedback from the guys! Well done to Sarel from Backline on a well deserved victory, applying local knowledge and skill to seal the deal :cgrts:
Team Liberty - great effort my mates! 15 fish raised is a sure sign that you were using the right formula and the lures were looking good. Bad luck with the TF (tackle failure swr ) but you have learnt now that just because it comes out of an expensive package it doesn't mean it's rigged right!!!!!!
@ Reinhard - well done mate on your first billie, hope you enjoyed it and the memories are with you forever. Did you have a swim?? w;k
There's always next year guys, you can start planning your revenge now!

I am expecting a call from Tokkie later this week on a business preposal.
Will chat to him then

:shk Nice fish.... 25kg+?
still trying to find out i think 28-30kg
-
On Thursday the board still stated biggest Couta 18kg. Probably a Friday fish then.
-
was told that but this fish is much heavier than that i think
-
I do not know anybody that can hold up 28 - 30kg with their hands out straight in front of them. Looks around 16-18kg
-
I agree Jean.
Maybe he's just a short oke.
Great fish though. :win:
-
compare it with this - weighed 19kg - caught at Jangamo in 1972 when I was a laaitie (yes I am a ballie)

I have to agree with Jakes, both pics are edited!
The moon landing never happened and there is sufficient proof that none of us really exists.

So is it "So long and thanks for all the fish"?
aka Douglas Adams.
