I've been trying to build a teaser that would perform like the famous witchdoctor: flashing light all over and running under the lures... my previous teaser tube (http://www.ultimateangling.co.za/index.php/topic,629.0.html (http://www.ultimateangling.co.za/index.php/topic,629.0.html)) was build with PVC but had some flaws (kept on taking water!).
Well, I found this piece of wood (pine) and thought of building the Blackdoctor!
Very simple... cut the front end at a 45o angle, drilled a dead center hole to put the swivel and secure it across with a piece of S/S screwed rod and poured some lead in a few holes for ballast...
Then, it was a matter of riveting some S/S plates and get the painting done (2x primer, 2x black enamel with white glitter sprinkled on the top and bottom sides, 2x yacht varnish... some sticking foil on top of the S/S plates and its done!
Total length: 58 cm
Width: 5 cm
Weight: 1450 gr

Do you tow that behind your boat?! :shk You offshore okes are mal!! :rotfl

Yeap... sometimes it scares the hell out me... big flash coming from underneath.... you think a monster is coming to get you!!!! :hehe:
-
I think this is how modern day skiing originated. :hehe: I have no idea how it works but I must give you cred for improvising! Is there anything you cannot make from recycled material? :hehe: (clap) :shre:

Thanks SA... It's quite simple actually.... you throw the teaser 5-8 m behind the boat.... because the nose is heavier than the back end (also also the 45 o degree angle) it dives immediately 2-4 m... now with the trolling it giggles and shakes thus flashing light in all directions... this and the vibrations attract the bills and other predators.... surface lures must be positioned close to the teaser (3-4 m behind)....
Action vid http://www.ultimateangling.co.za/index.php/topic,5369.new.html#new (http://www.ultimateangling.co.za/index.php/topic,5369.new.html#new)
Sometimes the bills actually hit the teaser but usually the crew must remove it as soon as a bill has been spotted.... then the angry marlin will (hopefully) chow the lure.... and the rest is history (and back pain!!!!) ... :hehe:
The other thing is.... these things cost about 140 U$ in the US.... with my DIY it will cost 10% of that.... well, not as effective (till I get it right), but... that's how Peter Pakula started... with a piece of recycled hood!!!!

Thanks for explaining the concept, I hope it gives you a lot of back pain..... :billf: :sailf: :hnthnt: :hnthnt:

John you have a real flair for this should really consider getting a few tools like a small compressor and a spray gun. Your ideas are well thought out and executed and I always look forward to your posts if you had a few tools you would be unstoppable.
To give you an idea I painted this over the week end using only a spray gun (no airbrushes) and a vinyl sticker you can tell I'm no bennie jordaan but it still makes for pretty good eye candy.

Thanks, I appreciate your kind words and encouragement...
Sometimes I do get desperate or not having the right tools that would make my life way simpler (like a vice for example!)... but it also add ups to the challenge!!!
I'm considering a (long over due) upgrade in my tool box...
Thanks again!

After the first test of the Blackdoctor, I washed it freshwater and let it dry... was about to store it after 3 days and realized the sticking foil had funny distinctive marks right in the middle of the teaser on the right side ... I could swear it got hit by something ...ok, ok, I think a bill hit it!... I scratched it off in both sides and now the mirrors are plain S/S...
If that's the case.... yeepeee!!!!! We never had a strike that day but that doesn't mean they were not there....
