Hi guys, Lunker showed me an awesome technique to catch carp without spooking them by tying a lengthe of braid from a swivel to the hook... The question I have here is what knot would I have to tie into the braid in order for it to sit on the eye of the hook and the swivel without slipping? Can anyone help me?

Triple Palomar Knot
In the pic below is a Normal Palomar knot. The Double or triple palomar, just pass the loop thro' the eye of the hook 3 times before continuing on to STEP 2.

Thanks guys...
Reefz cred to you appreciate it :tkx:

Palomar is the only way to tie braid to anything except when you are joining braid to mono

when i use to fish for carp i often used braid mainly because there were some crabs in the dam so they didnt cut the hooks off anymore i ALWAYS snelled the hook but stopped useing braid unless i used circle hooks because i found that if it was hooked alittle deep the braid would cut the carps mouth...(45lb kingfisher)

I used the Palomar directly onto my spoon the other week during a shad run, I lost 4 spoons because the braid snapped at the knot on the cast (after about 10 - 15 casts). Maybe I have bum braid, but when the spoon heads for the horizon and you then realise there is no string following it , all you can do is say Good Golly and tie another one on
-
It's known that any knot in braid is a weak point.
What I would do is tie the "knotless" knot.....aka the snell. Double the braid and snell it to the hook.
-
Then again... I would use a Fluoro leader! Wouldn't even think of using braid straight to terminal.

It's for carp Tony, quite common to use braid as a hooksnoot.

When the shad are feeding I just want to get the spoon back out there, no time for leaders or complex knots. I guess I'll still be throwing more spoons to the horizon and never seeing them again.

Sounds like "Shad fever"... :hnthnt: where grown men become a different species altogether.

Yeah using braid for carp, as Steve said stops the crabs from clipping you off and also certain braids have a more natural feel than mono or fluoro so if the carp accidentally feels the line it wont get spooked as easily with braid, my theory anyways w;k

Easily solved !
Tie your leader to a power swivel, then attach the swivel yo a quality split ring ! To change spoons, just use a split ring plier

Thanks, sounds good I'll give it a go.

Wouldn't tying a knotless-knot give you more knot strength on braid than the palomar knot? I even use it with my nylon hooklinks.
-
The Palomar knot is the knot recommended by many braid manufacturers, including Power pro.

Thanks, did not now that Reefs!

i use a 7 turn uni... for everything....
I've been fishing with 9lb braid, 15lb braid and recently 80lb braid for galjoen.
9lb braid, no leader, 1 ounce sliding sinker, 7 turn uni to swivel, 50cm .50 maxima, 2/0 mustad demon circle, sandprawn. I've caught more white stumpnose than i care to count on this combination. Very very seldom has it broken anything.
15lb braid, no leader, 2 ounce sliding sinker, 7 turn uni to swivel, 50cm .50 maxima, then depending on species hooks. Caught one geelbek, plenty stumpnose even a smooth hound and a cob. Yet to have the knot or braid fail and i gave the geelbek serious stick to get it into the boat before it got taxed.
80lb braid for galjoen, .70 mm leader, 3 turn uni nylon side, 7 turn uni braid side back to back.... yet to have the leader connection pop and fishing for gallies i've been stuck plenty.... .50 sinker trace and .55 hook trace.

Very interesting :shre:

When doing this knot in braid, double the line before you make the knot.

Correct. If I don't snell knot my steel traces, I use same knot on my steel, but just 3 turns. Easier than a figure 8 to me. I then put a crimp sleeve over the tag end and trace and push flat gently for a neat trace.
Also, if done right, the tag end lies next to the trace, perfect for rigging worm baits and prawn as the tag end stops the bait from sliding down, if bait is threaded up the hook and then up the line so minimum cotton is required. With salted wonderworm or moonshine, no cotton.

interesting.
recently, at st lucia, i used the polamar straight to the spoon swivel.
no bite off yet.
if the shad are thick and the teeth flying, then bite offs occur more frequently
ss
and yes, i did see it was the fresh water section
also use the knot when catching carp.
papgooiers.................

Thanks for the info guys, I'll try the uni. I have not had any bite offs on braid just the knot cutting through its self.
