Softies... only 2 solid colors.... 21 cm long...
A question to the old timers... how do I rig these? I've used 2 small ball sinker to give it a bit of weight and keep the shape (although the lure comes with a small plastic funnel)...
Will also play around with the inner/outer squirts for some variety...

Last but not least.... Hand carved wood floating Rapala Magnum (13 cm)... unfortunately this is the only color they had... will play around with some "mackerel stripes"... these cost R10.00 each.... should be deadly for bonnies and other bait :dunno:

John, use the cuttle's to make a teaser daisy chain (hookless) and put a small kona at the end.

Thanks for the tip dugong... that's the easiest part... I was actually asking about the softies... seems like it needs a especially shaped weight?!?

Yup, Dugong’s tip is what I would do with those cuttlefish. Rig 5 of them with 1 meter spacers (preferably reverse rig them) and then use a small kona at the end..it will make a great sailfish teaser, especially in flat to calm seas.
The softies brought me back to very found memories as I used them a lot in the early to mid 90´s and was the lure I mostly used on my first trip to Almirante Leite back in January 1992. It caught YFT like there was no tomorrow, biggest at 38 kilos.
I never used any weight on it, it should work fine as it is, but not in all sea conditions. I used to rig them with two 8/0 7732 Mustad at 180 but would probably just use a single stiff hook right at the back nowadays. I also caught a lot of fish with it off Inhaca in those days…had a white and red and a blue and white!!!
As with small Moldcraft they should also work great if you take the inner skirt and use a strip bait or ballyhoo inside…in this situation I would use 2 hooks.

Marcos, my uncle got a good sized Kob with the such a Rapala at De Hoop years ago. That is a day I will never forget because we got 4 Kob ranging between 5 and 14kg; all on Rapala. fshg
