Went casting this morning and I can't seem to brake the 170m mark with my setup.
I'm using a saltist 50, pentagon xheavy and a 8oz sinker.
No matter how hard I push the setup, I doesn't wana go further.
Any advise?

99.9% of anglers WISH that they could cast just 150m with a Heavy set-up... so if you're hitting that distance consistently with that Set-up, count yourself blessed my friend!!
-
Its a good cast buddy, don't get me wrong.
I just have the need to go further.
Maby thinner line? 0.45mm
-
Yup, thinner line will definitely give you more distance, no doubt about it! That's the first thing I would do if you want more distance. There are some super strong small diameter lines that will give you that extra 10-20m. Ultima Powersteel would be my first choice, but it is very difficult to obtain. Whaler uses it for league purposes (sliding) where he might need the difference. Problem is that it doesn't last long... it deteriorates quite quickly.

170 m ... :shk :shk , Christo thats a monster cast .. (clap) on my best days i dont get that , with an 8oz as well thats serious distance.. :rck"
-
Flip thats far! If I could get to 120 Id be happy. In order to break the 170 mark......AQUACAT! w;k
-
Mike, its like 166 then 164 and so it goes on.
Need to brake the 170m mark now.
Think ill go Tony,s root with the ultima line.
Were casting with 0.50.
-
PS: I can feel it in my shoulders that I went casting today.
Shows you how unfit I am!
That bush to bearing conversion on the saltist makes a HUGE difference with the casting. Thanks Tony.
-
most anglers get there bites from 70-130m
I think you throwing to far if you not getting any bites! :lolo:
-
Yep , that bush to bearing conversion makes a huge difference , the Saltist 50 really gets up to speed when u wind it hard to the extent that u have to start fine tuning with the cast control setting and use more of the thumb for control, i reckon with thinner line i'll also get that couple of meters xtra.
-
Good then im happy with my 120 to 150 range.. :crzy :crzy
-
I realy dont think that their is anything wrong with your casting, I would ratrher say you damn lucky to cast the way you do. But if you trieing to cast futher with that setup to be able to put a bait futher out I would say go to a 9oz sinker. You already have a heavy rod and line.
But if you wanting to cast futher just for the sake of being able to do it, I would go for a Medium rod and stay with the same brand as you allready have, down size the reel to a TN20 or TR20 or if you want to stay with the Daiwa range go to a SL30 the one with the floating spool ( metal spool ). Go down to thinner line like .4 or even thinner and bring your sinker to 7oz.
-
Ja Fritz is right... if you're just wanting to get more distance regardless of the setup, then his advice is solid. My Eds setup, Assassin Med HMG with a Saltist 30H... goes 20-30m past my heavy setup.
-
Damn, I am still trying to break the 100m mark.
Hooch, I think your best bet is to get a BAIT BOAT! :hehe:
-
I've got a similar problem ... I'm just not hitting the 210m mark with my med 7oz setup ... :rck" :rck" :hehe: :hnthnt: :hnthnt:

Hey Hooch,
The pendulum doc that I have posted, the guys in the UK are getting distances of 200m plus consistently. Maybe you should consider pendulum if you want to further than the 170m mark. I believe the secret liise in the momentum loaded onto the sinker and then power that body rotation adds to the cast.
I was stuck at 130m and going over to Pendulum I have added another 30m and I am still practising. You're already at 170m and should be able to go close to 200m if not further.
Cheers

Hi Hooch. I must be honest, try and increass the sinker weight. I am fishing with a custom HMG Shark Extreme Heavy and I have found that with an 8 oz I can not get the same action on the road as with a 10oz. i know that it sounds silly that 2oz can make such a diffrence but try it. But most of all remember not to overload your rod and distance is 99% techinque.
Tight Lines
-
Shoo that xtreme heavy is a beast! I think I snapped my spine in 17 places trying to cast that thing I have respect for anyone who can load that rod
-
:lolo:
I mst be honest it took me a while to get used to it, but I have found that the three piece rod is a charm compared to the single piece. I kno of someone that throws a 12oz withhis. It goes a mile, and to top it off he is not a big guy. He has awsome technique. I average about 160m with my cast at the moment
-
the furthest ive seen someone throw the heavy shark extreme paired with a trini 50 was with an 8oz he just uses a long drop and is a tank and says that you dont need those heavy sinkers like 10oz 12oz for my 50 i use a 9 and my 40 a 8oz and my 30 a 7oz on any of my non ed rods
