Another reel to consider is the Daiwa Regal. Very smooth rod and a 2500/3500 size should come in well below R400.

My drop-shot set-up cost me around R500. It's a blue marlin boss rod that comes with two tips (light and heavy). I paired it with a Penn accord 4000 reel (12 pound fireline) and it works lekker. On a recent trip to moz i used it to spin for the bonnies of the boat and landed quite a few on this set-up the biggest was around 3-4 kg. Those bonnies really give you a good workout on light tackle.

And match it up with maybe a Daiwa Megaforce M/H (8ft) spinning rod ..would be a nice combo as well check www.fishingtackle.co.za (http://www.fishingtackle.co.za) for more info and specs.

Slade 4000 and Daiwa Mega Force rod. I need to replace my tactix after those idiots from LAM airways broke mine, so I think I'll buy a megaforce. Looks like an awesome little rod.

I have both the 7' and 8' Megaforce, possibly the best value around - just look after the eyes.
I have caught lots of Kawakawa up to 5kgs on the 7' with a Salina 55 throwing poppers and spoons - awesome rod!! The Salina is now on the 8' but no fish yet.
