So what stops your sinker from crashing into your line and that spring-a-magic?

Quick question
Who actually invented the slide trace was it a company or a individual? was it developed locally here in ZA or abroad?

The spring part slides all the way down the line to the stopper ring and no further, so now your bait is freely available close or on the seabed .... along comes mr flatfish or shark and picks it up and away we go fish on. i'll bring one with to the social to show how it all works.

I stand corrected, but the Non-return slide as we know it was definitely developed by a local chap... can't remember his name, but it's def a South African invention. The Aussies have since bastardized it/copied it/ modified it to suit their conditions and some websites claim they invented it... but that ain't true.

And now you'll see the difference and advantages to using the Basil Manning SHAKE DOWN SLIDE...

So much easier!!

does Jack Doonan ring a bell regarding the invention of the non return clip?

dont know for sure.

all i do know, is that this old man used the non-return and normal cone sinkers.
back in 1998 he would have reached the back line with his shad, while i was still struggling to get mine through the first wave.

just for interest sake, you can use more then one non return on your line.

back in 1999 i still used cone sinkers. the one afternoon at st lucia with a pushing tide, i managed to slide a mullet through the waves. it was late afternoon.
i got a pull, but my drag was set too tight and the fish dropped the bait.
not wanting to go trough it all again, a clipped a new fresh mullet onto the line and slided it out.
it wasn't 5 minutes and i had a pull again. this time the drag was set lighter. the fish was given line and i set the hooks.

it was a good pull on my 16 foot purglass castmaster rod.
i eventually landed the fish, a salmon of 23kg.

the first mullet was still on the hooks and had bite marks "pin holes", so i could only imagine, that it was the same fish.

so, got the fish and both my live bait traces.
this was on a sandy beach.
i wount do it at Cape Vidal or First Rocks.
