With 400lb Steel, it's going to be difficult to do any sort of wraps... unless you've got vice fingers to do the Flemish eye with wraps, which would be the first choice knot.
Alternative to this would be a Fig 8, and the easiest on the fingers would be the Flemish eye with a crimp.
Here are the most common knots in steel... http://www.ultimateangling.co.za/index.php/board,18.20.html (http://www.ultimateangling.co.za/index.php/board,18.20.html)
Under Traces and Rigs, there is a thread on Swim Bait traces somewhere...

I know this is an old topic but in that steel i think you are best off with a flemish eye and twist it is the way i was shown by the SC guys and it is strong, neat and easy! alot of people dont like to crimp and dont trust crimps but if the can catch marlin on it with 500hp on the back and a 500kg marlin on the otherside i think crimps are plenty strong enough..
