Title: Ultima line- Eina
Post by: Rods on November 16, 2010, 02:48:58 PM
Won this line at a B/Bash last year at HITW and deicided to retire my KF Giant Abrasion and try this.  NEVER AGAIN.  Dont know if it was a bad spool or what but it started fraying on its very first outing.  :unhap  WTH.  Took it off straight away and going back to my good old faithful KF

The actual fraying.  Just peeling for nothing like a Gautie in KZN in December.

I am very happy with my Ultima, but then again I don't have the exact same range as yours.  :dunno:

If my memory serves, Distance is a freshwater line. Not designed for the salt? I'm not sure though. Maybe Hooked can help us here...

Yep was also very surprised as the guys (read Homie and Kumz -  w;k) assured was excellent line. And this was about the second throw. Which type do you have SAfish?

Eish could be Reefs. Put out a 7oz sinker to slide so maybe the tension was too much for it. On top of that the sidewash was something else. 7oz sinker stood no chance.

Hiya
That type of fraying is normally caused by a cracked or chipped guide on your rod.
Distance is a saltwater line with distance casting as it's primary purpose.
A harder line might be more resistant to fraying but if I were you I would pull some cotton wool through your guides and see where the crack is.From the amount of fraying I would suggest you check your tip guide first.

Thanks Hooked. Not something we like to hear. Will check later. But it does give me the excuse I need to put on bigger guides. As they say, 'every cloud has a silver lining'.   :hnthnt: :geet

Why didn't I think of that!? Makes perfect sense! Thanks for setting the record straight Luca.

Homie chop is used when you use a hatchet: I severed a finger from my hand while using a hatchet.

Tjop is a piece of meet you throw on a braai, you can use it to refer to someone that just acted in a manner that deserves ridicule, after said person almost removed an appendage due to alcohol induced use of a hatchet you can say:
You bloody chop you almost chopped your thumb with that hatchet((may be removed if no physical harm was done and replaced with pork)

Howzit guys.  Looks like I'm going to have to take back my rant abt Ultima line.  Finally had a look at my guides (Thanks Hooked and Kumz) and I couldnt believe what I saw.  No hairline crack at all.  Just a bluddy huge chip out of my top guide.   swr swr swr

Rods just be careful sliding with lite line as you can burn yourself off very quickly or it can damage your line. Would recommend you upgrade to something a little stronger than 9kg line, get something a little closer to 13kg

Howzit Steph. Normally fish .50mm on my saltist. Needed to change line, had that available so thought what the heck. But going back up. After all there's an Iggy with my name on it here somewhere in Zululand.   :hehe:  Thanks for the heads up.
