Post by: Durran on February 15, 2021, 02:22:08 PM
Hi guys,

Anyone have experience in successfully preserving sealice for a few days?

Ive heard of jsut putting them in a fridge in-between a damp cloth and they good for up to three days, any other tips?

Storing in a wet cloth bag or towel works, just dont leave it too long.

I Have heard that the best way to preserve is to Freeze them in an Ice Cream Container - filled with Sea Water.

Cannot vouch for this though as i have not tried it yet.

I havent done this in a very longtime. I used to pickle prawn. I would even make small containers for small trips. Use sea water, and then ad lots of salt. The salt content must be very high, the water will barely freeze. Normally just around the sides of container and maybe the top. The prawns would be as firm as the day they were pumped and even the same colour.
Not sure if it will work for you, but worth a try. I kept prawn like this for a few weeks.

Fresh live sea lice will always get the pulls first however, if you have to freeze them, freeze them whilst they are still alive and then vacuum pack them and they will last for many months provided they kept in a good low temp freezer.
