I recently acquired a 12ft 6inch ski vee. It will mostly be used for bass and tiger fishing. My question is there any one that takes on the big blue with a 12ft 6 ski vee? If there is please post some pics of your setup.
Is it worth getting it registered for cat E and fish the odd perfect day out on the ocean, we fish Mozambique often and sometimes at sodwana some time it is a hassle pulling the big boat all the way for a short weekend trip.
Lets here the story's of the old small oelofsen ski's

Slightly bigger than your ski, but probably a bit closer to the water, I had my first few skipperings in my little C-Ski 440. Very seaworthy (in the sense that it rode smoothly and took on breakers comfortably) but very wet, very unstable and very scary on the backline with a single motor. But it was a great little boat. I fitted a kicker motor to her and that helped a lot in terms of confidence. I never had to use it tho.

FishStyx thanks for the reply.
The setup on that C ski looks almost exactly like my ski vee, I have heard only good things about those C ski's.
Mine has a 30hp 3 cylinder Yamaha on and it goes like a rocket, gets on the plain really fast so my feeling is that it should perform like a jetski in the surf being small and nimble. I fished Mozambique alot growing up and we had a ski vee 500 sport with a single 90hp Yamaha, so the single motor doesn't necessarily bother me to mutch but I get what your saying, things tend to go wrong at the worst time.
I will post a picture of my little ski vee once I get it back on the trailer. I have been doing a lot of customizing on it to fit my needs

have one with a 40 yamaha on, does what is says on the box wet likes to rock and good fun but 14.6 have added extra floation steps to the back which helps a nice bumbox so fishes 2 comfortable

Hi Rory, I have seen a few with pontoons ons the sides.
Would you mind posting a picture of your setup it sounds interesting

These are pretty much standard fare for the spearos so I really don't think there is any issue with taking it to sea.
I know of a few guys at Durban that are regularly out in SkiVees. I am not too sure if they are out in foul weather, but then why would you be? It is recreation after all.
I think it will be awesome to use, very easy on the beach and easy to tow. Whats not to like?

I bought a sheet of SPX33 100mm thick and fashioned "pontoons" for my boat. I never got round to gluing them on before selling the boat. I offered them to the bloke who bought her, and he declined them saying that he thought the ski looked plenty stable... A few months later, he called me and asked for them. Apparently, they worked a treat.

I agree, bad weather isn't fun at all no matter the size of the boat.
That is also why I would like to take it to sea, my girlfriend and I should easily be able to launch it by ourselves. Less people less worry

I don't like the idee of "pontoons" if I choose to fit something to stabilize it in the future I would rather go with the design they use on the jetskis, build it out of fiberglass and it would also add some storage. But for now I'm happy until I get it on the sea for the first time to feel it out for myself.

will look for a few photos otherwise going coastal next weekend

Heres my C Ski 444. We venture far and wide. Shes paired with 2 2/30s Yummies. We burn more beer money after a days fishing than fuel and towing through the soft Mozams dunes is a breeze. Aweh

I really fell in love with the lines of the C-Skis when I was deliberating my purchase... They're such perky little vessels. I do actually miss my boat... I miss the ride, but I don't miss fishing off it. Your 444 is apparently a lot more stable than my 440 was. Lekker boat OnDad (clap)

What is the going rate of a new C ski 444?
Looking at the new ski vee 13ft 6 and 16ft original going fot 150k and 180k respectively.
