Yes, the Indian mackerel (Rastrelliger kanagurta) does occur in SA waters and is known as the Indian mackerel, Indiese makriel, Langkaak-makriel and Longjaw mackerel.

Thank you so much.
I wasn't sure, not many people have reported hooking them.
Is it ok to catch them? And what is the best spots?

Yes, Adcan Marine had plenty last year as there was a big shortage of Natal Sards and Redeyes, so was basically the only bait available.

Not so sure about everyone else here , but in 40 odd years of boat and bait fishing I have never caught one. Occasionally the Vetches netters catch some. I am pretty sure they are generally netted.
I have often seen them while snorkeling in the basin and Vetches though. Hell , but they do move fast though.

Anyone have a Pic to share of one?
