Title: Outrigger poles
Post by: Rollercoaster639 on June 10, 2019, 08:52:01 PM
Where can I buy outrigger poles. Also read the DIY outrigger post from long ago. Is there anything better / updated than the swimming pool pipes out there. Boat has already got outrigger bases on them so just need poles and rigging.

Most important, my budget is tight. Times are tough. thanks in advance

You dont really get anything cheap these days for boating unfortunately. Your best bet for Outriggers are Shagstix from Greg Hogarth. Highly recommended as they light, sticf and compact when stored away.

As Charles said, nothing is cheap in the boating/fishing world, these days (was it ever?!?!).

Depending on the bases you already have, I'd say pool pipes (or similar) are you best bet. They are stiff, easy to assemble, light and cheap.

Use them while you save for the real deal...

I have a set of Purglass outrigger poles available. They gave me good service for many years up to the point I upgraded to ShagStix Carbon poles.
They are unrigged , but there are easy tuts for that.
You can have the set for R2k, pick up in Pretoria

Werries I would like to take you up on that offer. I really do not have the 10.5k now for new unrigged ones. If you can send me a contact email I will then continue this with you. As it turns out I have to be in Pretoria on the 26 &27 June 19 anyhow.  I have about a 38mm "base" on my boat. What size are the outriggers / will they work.

ps. sorry about the typo originally

Great stuff Werries!!!!  :+ cred: :+ cred:

If I may suggest Roller.... try to find some alu pipes to use as sleeves of the top section... these poles are quite soft, and the sleeves will make them stiffer and provide cleaner releases

You will need the line to the bow AND a sleeve of some sort....

The alu sleeves are available in most general shops (Game, Builders, etc). Look for the them at the curtains section

The white Purglass poles are VERY soft (especially the top section). It bends a lot....
